About The Position

The Deputy Chief: ESF4 – Statewide Dispatch will provide leadership to agency programs. This position will oversee programs, including but not limited to: training, quality assurance/quality improvement, compliance, data interpretation and strategic planning. The Deputy Chief will also work with various programs to provide high quality services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Fire Administration, Business Administration, Science or related field.
  • Seven (7) years of experience with a fire or emergency response agency.
  • Four (4) years as a supervisor.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Sound judgement.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead others.
  • Ability to work long hours in times of need.
  • Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Valid Texas Driver's license or ability to acquire one within 30 days of employment.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Emergency Management, Fire Administration, Business Administration, Science or related field.
  • Eight (8) or more years of supervisory experience.
  • NWCG Qualification

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to assigned program/team.
  • Develop and maintain excellence in delivery of assigned programs.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for program area.
  • Participate in emergency response by providing oversight to assigned program(s) and ensure seamless integration.
  • Ensure the agency remains in compliance with all state and federal regulations within the program area.
  • Provide oversight and leadership to assigned staff.
  • Work with staff on employee development opportunities.
  • Build and maintain depth in positions.
  • Utilize non-assigned staff for response functions, when possible, to build knowledge.
  • Analyze and provide staffing for expected demand.
  • Establish and model a service-oriented culture that supports organizational values.
  • Ensure budgets and inventory are properly managed.
  • Collaborate with others to ensure grant goals and objectives are completed.
  • Ensure grant money is properly used and reported on.
  • Ensure the maintenance and proper operation of systems and equipment.
  • Work closely with division leadership to improve systems.
  • Ensure all administrative duties are completed properly, such as environmental health and safety, credit card compliance, fuel logs and related duties.
  • Other duties as assigned. Emergency response may require working long hours with minimal rest and in primitive conditions, exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as smoke, wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes. Emergency response may result in exposure to emotionally stressful situations. Persons serving in fire operation positions must meet a physical fitness standard which includes successfully completing the appropriate annual work capacity test.
