About The Position

A Wire Transfer Specialist is responsible for processing domestic and international wire transfers, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and adherence to internal controls. This role supports customers and internal departments while contributing to the integrity, risk management, and efficiency of the bank’s wire operations. Key Responsibilities: Wire Processing: Process high-dollar, time-sensitive incoming and outgoing domestic and international wire transfers with accuracy and consistency, in accordance with established procedures and daily cut-off times. Review wire requests to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper authorization prior to processing. Enter, verify, and release wire transactions using approved wire systems while adhering to dual-control and segregation-of-duties requirements. Fraud Prevention: Identify potential fraud risks related to wire activity and take appropriate action in accordance with established procedures. Monitor wire transactions for red flags, unusual activity, or suspected fraud, and escalate concerns promptly to management and the appropriate risk or fraud teams. Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure wire transfer activities comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including internal bank policies and procedures. Perform required OFAC screening and compliance checks. Verify wire authenticity and documentation to mitigate operational, regulatory, and financial risk. Customer Service : Respond to wire-related inquiries from customers, branch staff, and internal departments in a professional and timely manner. Provide guidance on wire requirements, forms, documentation, and procedures to ensure accurate and complete wire submissions while maintaining strong internal controls. Transaction Monitoring and Issue Resolution: Monitor wire queues and daily wire activity to ensure timely processing and resolution. Identify discrepancies, errors, rejected wires, or unusual activity. Research, resolve, and document wire-related issues, including posting errors and customer inquiries. Communicate with correspondent banks and external financial institutions to resolve wire exceptions as needed. Recordkeeping and Reconciliation: Maintain complete, accurate, and well-organized documentation for all wire transactions. Perform daily wire reconciliations and balancing to ensure the accuracy of wire settlement and general ledger accounts. Ensure records are retained in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal record-retention policies.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of banking operations experience ideally with wire processing.
  • Knowledge of bank regulatory compliance, OFAC screening and controls.
  • Must be coachable and a team player.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate when following bank procedures.
  • Must have a strong understanding of fraud detection and risk mitigation.
  • Works effectively in a cross-functional, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to learn banking systems, business applications, and third-party tools.
