About The Position

Department Manager: Frozen, Dairy & Bread Overview: To lead the daily operation of the Department including dairy/refrigerated, frozen foods, and bread. To ensure that all staff in the Department is adequately trained, working to meet the needs of the business and providing prompt and friendly customer service. To meet objectives for sales, merchandising standards, profitability, inventory levels/turns, safety, and sanitation. Directly supervise all Department staff.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership role in a grocery or retail environment
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient use in basic functions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the fiscal performance of the Department including sales, margin, payroll, and expenses. Work actively with the Operations Manager and Administrative staff to meet goals and budgets.
  • Lead or oversee all major Department initiatives including resets, and major departmental changes
  • Supervise and lead entire Department and member-owners
  • Plan and execute bi-weekly endcap changeover in conjunction with Marketing Department and Category Buyer
  • Oversee the Category Buyer, and ensure our product mix is constantly being updated
  • Ensure we are actively meeting with sales representatives and brokers and negotiating deals to increase our sales and gross margin
  • Set clear goals and expectations for Department staff, providing realistic timelines for tasks, with regular check-ins for ongoing projects
  • Actively model and coach professional behavior that is expected of all staff to customers, member-owners, and staff
  • Complete all department staff performance evaluations on time
  • Actively listen, give, and respond to feedback to/from customers, member-owners, staff, and supervisors
  • Ensure entire department is actively engaging customers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Hire and schedule all Department staff. Scheduling must meet business needs.
  • Address any violations of HWFC policies and procedures or poor work performance by Department staff
  • Ensure all Department staff are adequately trained upon hire and provide ongoing training and coaching to Department staff
  • Ensure shelves are stocked and rotated adequately to meet customer needs
  • Ensure backroom is organized and product level of back stock is kept to a minimum
  • Ensure shelving, fixtures, backroom, coolers, and freezer meet sanitation standards
  • Ensure all products in the Department meet the requirements of our Food and Product Manual
  • Utilize IT and data management tools to make fact-based decisions on product mix
  • Ensure all product is received in compliance with Receiving Standard Operating Procedure
  • Ensure the Department has a functional special-order program
  • Check and respond to e-mail communication at least once a day
  • Attend any required meetings
  • Conduct department meetings at least three times per year
  • Make at least quarterly visits to competing stores to stay apprised of market trends and pricing
  • Complete tasks within expected timeframe
  • Ensure shelf tags and department signage meet merchandising standards
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Operations Manager as needed
