Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech), the state’s only public polytechnic university, invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair, Applied Computing & Geomatics within the College of Engineering, Technology and Management ( ETM ). This is an exciting opportunity for an academic leader to guide a department at the forefront of Oregon Tech’s mission – advancing applied learning, research, and workforce innovation across information technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and geospatial science. As Oregon’s Polytechnic University, Oregon Tech prepares graduates to lead where knowledge meets practice. The College of Engineering, Technology and Management – its largest continues to expand its reach and reputation through growing enrollment, new interdisciplinary programs, and national recognition for academic quality and applied research. The Department of Applied Computing & Geomatics anchors Oregon Tech’s leadership in digital and spatial technologies that power the modern world. Students master the tools that secure networks, manage data, and map the environment – skills that drive decision-making and innovation across industries. The department offers programs in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Geomatics, with the latter recognized nationally for excellence through the NCEES $25,000 Education Award. Oregon Tech also launched the state’s only online ABET -accredited Surveying program, expanding access to working professionals statewide. Through a $709,000 HECC Workforce Ready Grant, the department is partnering with the Technology Association of Oregon and Link Oregon to upskill professionals and strengthen Oregon’s digital infrastructure. The next Chair will lead during a period of strategic growth and innovation – aligning programs in Cyber/IT, Geomatics, and the forthcoming Artificial Intelligence degree to meet employer demand and prepare graduates for the data-driven workforce of tomorrow. Priorities include advancing accreditation readiness, expanding online quality at scale, growing enrollment and retention, and deepening collaborations with industry and government partners. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, student-centered academic leader who brings technical breadth, online leadership experience, and a record of innovation in applied computing or geospatial science.
