About The Position

The Surgical Assistant (LPN or LDA) is responsible for providing excellent patient care before, during, and after medical and surgical procedures. This position assists the surgeon professionally throughout all phases of treatment and supports clinical operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and compassionate patient experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a state-approved school for Practical Nursing (LPN) or Dental Assisting (LDA).
  • Must be willing to obtain DAANCE certification, IV certification, and nitrous oxide training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient care skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to always maintain a compassionate and professional demeanor.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Working knowledge of medical or dental office practices and services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to stand for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Occasional lifting of 20–50 pounds with assistance.
  • Must have good balance and physical coordination when assisting patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous surgical or dental assisting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial health assessments and obtain vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures and ensure their comfort.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Educate patients regarding upcoming procedures and postoperative care.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and charts.
  • Assist surgeons before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Wash, sterilize, and maintain instruments according to protocol.
  • Insert and manage IVs (must complete in-office IV insertion training with doctor present).
  • Administer oral medications, nitrous oxide (under supervision), and IV/IM medications (under supervision).
  • Monitor and document all controlled substances.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays as required.
  • Perform daily and weekly cleaning and maintenance of surgical and recovery areas.
  • Maintain adequate inventory and supply levels.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
