Summit County Public Health is looking for a Dental Hygienist to work in our Dental Clinic Monday through Friday. The position offers part-time to full time hours, working 21-35 hours per week. The Dental Hygienist provides preventive oral care under the supervision of a dentist, performing services such as prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, radiographs, fluoride treatments, and sealants. The role includes educating patients and caregivers, conducting screenings for oral diseases, documenting care, and maintaining treatment rooms, equipment, and supplies in compliance with safety and infection control protocols.

Requirements

  • Current state dental hygiene license.
  • Radiography certified.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license, automobile availability, and insurance coverage.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year hygiene experience, preferred.
  • Familiarity with Dentrix Software, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dental hygiene services including cleanings, scaling, root planing, radiographs, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on oral health practices and disease prevention.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, equipment, and supplies according to protocols.
  • Conduct oral health assessments, including oral cancer screenings and periodontal evaluations.
  • Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride and cavity-preventing agents.
  • Document patient histories, vital signs, and dental records accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, sterilization, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain dental supplies inventory and complete weekly sterilization monitoring.
  • Follow practice protocols related to quality assurance, charting, referrals, and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in meetings, in-service trainings, and continuing education.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills while working with diverse populations.
  • Support public health initiatives, comply with agency/state regulations, and remain available for emergency response as needed.
