About The Position

Provides dental hygiene services, under the supervision of the Dentist, following established protocols. This includes conducting daily dental hygiene clinics, establishing patient history through interviews, establishing diagnostic impressions, and initiating arrangements for treatment. The hygienist will also serve as a resource for medical providers on various dental topics, such as the safety of radiographs and dental materials, the impact of untreated caries and periodontal disease on overall health, the interplay of diabetes and heart disease with dental health, the importance of oral health education and preventive services for young children and parents, and the relationship between parental oral health and child oral health.

Requirements

  • Certification by the State of Colorado as a Registered Dental Hygienist
  • Anesthesia certification by the State of Colorado or within one year of employment
  • Must be current or willing to be vaccinated for TDAP (up to date booster)
  • Must be current or willing to be vaccinated for MMR series
  • Must be current or willing to be vaccinated for Varicella
  • Must be current or willing to be vaccinated for HEP B series
  • Must be current or willing to be vaccinated for Flu Shot
  • Must be current or willing to be vaccinated for TB Screening
  • Must be current or willing to be vaccinated for COVID

Responsibilities

  • Perform dental screening examinations and x-rays and interprets the results with assistance and supervision by the Staff Dentist.
  • Performance all the Dental Hygiene services including Dental prophylaxis, Periodontal maintenance and Scaling and root planning
  • Teach patients ways to maintain or improve their Oral Health
  • See patients that are scheduled in their dental exam room
  • See New Patient exams visits and do the dental cleaning at the same appointment when it is possible
  • See patients by going into medical visits (to be determined on a daily and sometimes hourly basis) - being in moment by moment contact with Medical Assistants and medical providers to make entrance into medical visits
  • See patients by accepting referrals on the spot from providers.
  • Be flexible in communication styles with different providers and flexible in accessing times to see their patients
  • The hygienist will have a high level of cultural sensitivity and compassion and awareness of financial burdens.
  • Help connect patients with resources.
  • The hygienist will have current skills to work with children and to do sealants.
  • The hygienist will be Cavity Free at three trained and able to provide appropriate education and oral hygiene training for parents of young children.
  • The hygienist will be on a planning team for care coordination and workflow planning.
  • The hygienist will prepare their own set ups, clean up following services, and sterilize their own equipment.
  • The hygienist will do administrative/receptionist work as needed including reminder calls, follow-up calls, and scheduling of patients as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and maintenance of dental records.
  • Assist the QI department in all HRSA requirements
  • Comply with all OSHA, HIPAA and BLS Policies and procedures at MarillacHealth
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned by the supervisor
