About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, responsible for the overall function, quality of care and the financial progress of the dental clinic. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine plus five years’ experience as a practicing dentist and one-year supervisory experience.
  • Dental license from the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners.
  • Must possess a current DEA license.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, Tuberculin Skin Test, and comply with Employee Health requirements for hire.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, Joint Commission, and NHF QI standards and Arizona State statute.
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of IHS, AHCCCS and Insurance payment policies.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental care.
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services.
  • Knowledge of patient admission, triage, transfer, and discharge procedures and documentation.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and support efforts to coordinate and execute Antibiotic Stewardship Committee’s goals and objectives in the hospital.
  • Participate with the nursing, medical, administrative, and dental staff in the development and review of program goals and objectives.
  • Prepare, with the Chief Financial Officer, the department budget. Administer the budget and prepare budget modifications when necessary and account for variances.
  • Prepare, and/or review, and/or revise the Policy and Procedure manual for the dental clinic and department, including standard of care, at least every 3 years or as necessary.
  • Plan and implement a QI program which complies with Joint Commission and Arizona State statutes.
  • Oversee the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Prepare department staffing schedule. Approve biweekly timecards for payroll processing.
  • Develop and maintain a Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan and Manual, Safety Manual, and Hazard Communication Program and Manual. Coordinate training and exposure control/infection control activities.
  • Act as a liaison between dentists and assistants or other providers using conflict resolution skills regarding problems that may arise.
  • Oversee the front office, inventory, purchasing, physical clinic, cleanliness, safety, periodic equipment maintenance, and minor repairs. Ensure department is operating with excellent customer service and quality standards.
  • Arrange school programs with the public schools. Participate in school and other community dental programs.
  • Prepare, review and present quarterly statistical and financial reports. Develop plan of action to address any problems.
  • Participate in patient treatment; examine, diagnose, provide consultation, and treat patients.
  • Follow and communicate all personnel policies.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  • Inform the patient of diagnosis and treatment needs and options in such a way that the patient understands and can make an informed decision.
  • Ensure all personnel follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of the patient’s dental diagnosis and treatment according to QI Standards and standards of care.
  • Present in-services to staff. Ensure all personnel meet annual in-service requirements.
  • Attend medical/dental staff meetings, as necessary.
  • Maintain Universal Precaution guidelines at all times during patient care (Mask, Gloves, Eye Protection, Rubber dam usage) and wash hands before and after de-gloving.
  • Ensure all personnel follow and maintain all relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations, guidelines, policies, and standards for the provision of dental clinical services.
  • Participate in and attend in-service and educational programs to improve and learn new skills.
  • Treat patients with dignity and respect.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of records.
  • Contribute to a team effort and accomplish related results as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
