POSITION OVERVIEW The Dental Director provides leadership, operational oversight, and strategic direction for the dental program. This role balances direct patient care with program management, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered, and compliant dental services for a diverse and underserved population

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from an accredited school of dentistry
  • Possession of valid D.D.S/ D.M.D. degree
  • Current Iowa license, federal DEA and Iowa CSA in good standing
  • Comprehensive skills and ability to apply modern methods and practices of general four-handed dentistry and oral surgery essential

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct dental care as part of the regular clinical schedule
  • Serve as the clinical authority for dental services, ensuring evidence-based, high-quality care
  • Establish, implement, and maintain dental clinical protocols, policies, and standards of care
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and chart audits
  • Promote trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and patient-centered care
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the dental clinic(s), including patient flow, scheduling models, and productivity
  • Collaborate with leadership to optimize access, efficiency, and patient experience
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including visit volume, no-show rates, and quality metrics
  • Support dental equipment maintenance, supply management, and vendor coordination
  • Lead budgeting, staffing planning, and program growth initiatives for the department
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and performance feedback to dental staff
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of dental staff
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and mission-driven team culture
  • Support ongoing staff education, training, and professional development
  • Ensure compliance with HRSA, FTCA, OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission, and state dental regulations
  • Support preparation for site visits, audits, and credentialing and privileging activities
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation within the EHR
  • Address risk management issues and patient concerns related to dental care
  • Work closely with medical, behavioral health, and enabling services teams to support integrated care
  • Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and organizational initiatives
  • Support community outreach, education, and partnerships related to oral health
