The Dental Assistant assists the Dentist with various dental procedures, including the preparation of the dental examination room and equipment, patient preparation, radiographic set-up and development, and chairside procedural assistance. Key responsibilities involve assisting chairside, participating in and explaining dental treatment plans, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of dental operatory and laboratory areas. The role also requires proper disposal of contaminated wastes, independent clinic opening and closing, and keeping the sterilization area updated. The assistant performs limited hygiene services such as child prophys and topical fluoride application, oversees dental equipment and supplies, and assists with inventory control. Additional duties include charting requirements for various procedures (x-ray, crown & bridge, Caries Risk Assessment, root canal, and denture), scheduling dental appointments, and providing support to other dental providers. The position also involves performing coronal polish for adults and children, night guard delivery, taking alginate impressions, pouring models, creating custom trays and wax rims, and ensuring accurate documentation of dental records. The Dental Assistant is responsible for the accurate completion of the X-ray process and certification, participating in laboratory processes for dentures, crowns, and partials, fabricating temporary crowns, leading daily dental flow, managing two rooms for procedures, and training new employees. Ordering supplies, inventory tracking, and assisting the QI department with HRSA requirements are also part of the role. Compliance with all OSHA, HIPAA, and BLS Policies and procedures at MarillacHealth is mandatory, along with performing other related job duties as assigned by the supervisor.
