Position Summary The Demurrage Analyst role provides an opportunity to join Marathon’s global marine team, responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient transportation of petroleum products. This role is responsible for development and evaluation of claims, along with negotiation and settlement of both blue and brown water vessel demurrage throughout Marathon.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation, Business Administration, or other related discipline or five (5) years of experience in lieu.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiates settlements of routine to moderately complex tanker demurrage claims.
  • Evaluates cost and freight or delivered commodity sales contracts to determine barge billable demurrage to third parties.
  • Compiles and prepares moderately complex tanker demurrage and ancillary post fixture claims for reimbursement per terms and conditions by contract type.
  • Analyzes payable claims arising out of charter party contracts and free on board or delivered cargo contracts to determine demurrage and ancillary post fixture claims payable to shipowners or third parties.
  • Validates claim against voyage documents, distance tables, correspondence, vendor invoices, and vessel particulars.
  • Reviews and provides invoicing and pay instructions to accounting team.
  • Provides analytical support for demurrage and related initiatives.
  • Provides root cause analysis of demurrage events.
  • Assesses intercompany demurrage charges on time chartered vessels.
  • Compiles and disseminates various reports as directed.
  • Monitors demurrage account receivables to identify delinquent payments.
