About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Demurrage Analyst to join our team, reporting to the Head of Shipping in Houston, TX. This role is vital in ensuring the accurate and timely management of demurrage claims related to the transportation of crude oil and other oil products for UNIPEC America. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a thorough understanding of shipping operations, working closely with various internal departments and external partners to optimize financial outcomes and mitigate risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime, Logistics, or related field.
  • 2+ years relevant demurrage analysis experience or operation experience.
  • Some experience with charter party agreements and general terms and conditions.
  • Shipping knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to analyze data effectively.
  • Ability to analyze large data and create metrics from multiple sources.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong critical thinker and problem solver.
  • Highly motivated and a team player.
  • Successful multitasker and can perform under pressure and strict timelines.
  • Advance Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Knowledge and exposure to contract interpretation.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to create strong relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned demurrage claims, properly auditing and conducting data analysis in support of the trading organization.
  • Negotiates demurrage claims from ship/barge owners and third parties.
  • Invoices third parties in line with charter party and commercial contract terms.
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Actively communicates with counterparties to ensure timely collection of receivables.
  • Reports the status of demurrage negotiations to traders and/or the Risk Department.
  • Collaborate with Finance/Accounting to ensure efficient and accurate processing of demurrage payables and proper billing of receivables.
  • Dispute demurrage bills as necessary and resolve accounts payable discrepancies.
  • Proactive communication, efficient coordination, and strong organizational skills to maintain smooth operational performance and service quality.
  • Ensure that all data and operational inputs are accurate, timely, and standardized across systems.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.?
  • Reviews contracts and advises traders when lay-time and demurrage language require realignment. Reviews third-party contracts and proposals for potential commercial risk.
  • Schedules reviews for expiring contracts.
  • Analyzes demurrage trends to understand business updates and advises the trading group on ways to minimize future risks.
  • Maintain the demurrage account balance and build up a positive P&L for the demurrage account.
  • Develops ad-hoc metrics when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
