About The Position

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security. Position Summary: KBR, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced air-to-air or air-to-ground weapon system engineering or technical SME to play a critical role in the evaluation of sole-source and competitive proposals for next-generation hypersonic weapon systems. You will serve as the lead technical expert, responsible for providing independent assessments that validate the contractor’s proposed technical approach, manufacturing readiness, and cost realism. Your expertise will directly support national defense priorities by ensuring the proposed solution is executable and provides the best value, helping to shape major acquisition decisions for the future of America's advanced strike capabilities.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate is a seasoned defense acquisition professional with extensive experience supporting major weapon system programs, either within a DoW System Program Office, a major defense contractor, or a government advisory organization. Candidates typically come from senior roles such as program management, chief engineering, capture/proposal leadership, contracting, or pricing/cost analysis supporting large defense acquisitions.
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business, Finance, Acquisition, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience supporting defense acquisition, aerospace/defense programs, or major defense proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, analyzing, or evaluating contractor proposals for defense programs.
  • Experience in Weapon system engineering, technical development, or manufacturing
  • Experience supporting or interacting with DoW System Program Offices, acquisition programs, or source selection activities.
  • Strong understanding of weapon system development, production, and sustainment lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical and business evaluation teams.
  • Ability to analyze large and complex proposal submissions and synthesize findings into clear recommendations for senior acquisition leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to brief senior government leadership.

  • 20+ years of experience supporting advanced aerospace or weapon system programs.
  • Experience supporting programs involving: Hypersonic weapon systems Advanced air-to-ground or long-range strike weapons Next-generation missile systems
  • Experience with weapon system manufacturing, production engineering, or production readiness assessments.
  • Familiarity with defense industrial base challenges and supplier networks supporting missile production.
  • Experience evaluating industrial base capacity, supply chain risks, and manufacturing scalability.
  • Experience supporting technical evaluations during defense source selections.
  • Background in systems engineering, production engineering, propulsion, guidance systems, or advanced materials.
  • Experience working with major defense contractors or government laboratories involved in advanced weapon development.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Systems Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical advisor and team technical lead supporting proposal evaluations for advanced air-to-ground, long-range, and hypersonic weapon systems.
  • Support cross-functional evaluation teams alongside program management, cost analysis, manufacturing, logistics, and contracting experts.
  • Conduct detailed technical and manufacturing assessments of contractor proposals, evaluating the feasibility of both system design and production execution.
  • Evaluate contractor proposal volumes addressing areas such as: System architecture, subsystem development, and subsystem integration Manufacturing approaches and production strategies Production scalability and manufacturing readiness Industrial base capacity and supplier dependencies Test, verification, and production qualification strategies Product support strategies
  • Assess manufacturing readiness, production maturity, and supply chain resilience associated with proposed weapon system solutions.
  • Identify technical, production, and industrial base risks that may impact program execution.
  • Support development of technical evaluation reports and executive briefings for senior government leadership.
  • Proactively collect, analyze, and synthesize technical, manufacturing, and industrial base data from related weapon programs across the DoW acquisition portfolio to inform proposal evaluations.
  • Apply lessons learned from other missile, strike, and hypersonic weapon programs to evaluate contractor technical and production claims.
  • Identify cross-program industrial base constraints or supplier dependencies that may impact multiple weapon programs.
