About The Position

In the role of Decision Analytics Senior Manager, you will be a pivotal leader within Biogen's Decision and Quality Analytics Innovation (DQAI) group, which is part of our Development department. As a member of the DQAI team, your primary mission is to drive smarter decisions and measurable impact across our research, development, and medical initiatives. This position requires a blend of strategic acumen and technical proficiency, enabling you to translate complex data into narratives that drive both operational and strategic outcomes. You will oversee strategic direction-setting for decision analytics frameworks, AI/ML-enabled innovations, and enterprise-wide program modeling practices. By partnering with cross-functional R&D teams and external collaborators, you'll play a critical role in shaping enterprise decision science maturity and advancing our analytic capabilities. You are a strategic decision analytics leader who brings together deep quantitative expertise and a strong understanding of the drug development landscape. You excel at transforming complex modeling, scenario analysis, and AI/ML-driven insights into clear narratives that guide operational and strategic decisions across R&D. You thrive in environments where innovation, rigor, and cross-functional alignment are essential, and you naturally build trusted partnerships with scientific, clinical, financial, and technical stakeholders. Requirements

  • MS in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years experience in data science, analytics, or a comparable domain within pharmaceutical R&D or portfolio analytics.
  • Expertise in decision analytics, Monte Carlo simulations, pTRS forecasting and quantitative scenario modeling methods.
  • High-level proficiency in programming tools (Python/R) and portfolio simulation techniques.
  • Proven ability to align cross-functional teams and influence governance decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and executive-level communication skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate mathematically rigorous insights into clear recommendations for non-technical
  • Familiarity with the drug development process and basic accounting or finance, such as P&Ls and cash flows.
  • Recognized for independent problem solving, innovative thinking, and the ability to integrate best practices with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end program modeling efforts for multiple high-impact programs, focusing on assumptions gathering, trade-offs, and ROI analyses.
  • Perform scenario planning and “what-if” simulations to understand potential program and portfolio impacts.
  • Perform sensitivity analyses and apply strategic-coverage frameworks to unify modeling assumptions across programs, improving governance-ready program narratives and insights.
  • Utilize financial data (e.g. discounted cash flow) to evaluate the potential return on drug development projects.
  • Institutionalize modeling standards and drive the adoption of strategic-alternatives methodologies and enhance governance decision frameworks.
  • Oversee the product roadmap for internal analytics tools, ensuring alignment and scalability.
  • Collaborate with IT and data engineering to maintain the R&D analytics infrastructure.
  • Architect and integrate advanced AI/ML methodologies into the Decision Science lifecycle.
  • Mentor junior staff in quantitative methodologies and decision-making frameworks.
  • Engage with functional teams to align program narratives for governance.
  • Lead external representation by contributing to peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
