About The Position

The Cumberland Valley School District, a leader in public education in Pennsylvania, seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Mountain View Middle School Dean of Students. As one of the school's educational leaders, the Dean of Students is responsible for assisting with the administration and supervision of the school in a manner that creates the optimal learning environment necessary to promote each student's educational development. The professional candidate(s) selected for this assignment understand and agree that they may be required to teach in a blended or online format as requested by the administration. The successful candidate for this position will assist the principal in supervising, coordinating, and disciplining all students at Mountain View Middle School. While candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds and certifications, all must hold a Master's degree. Additionally, a valid Pennsylvania K-12 Principal certification is highly preferred, or that the candidate is currently enrolled and working towards the K-12 Principal certification. Cumberland Valley is looking for an instructional leader who can partner with the building principal to demonstrate success in the following areas: Inspiring and leading the development and implementation of a shared vision to promote excellence and support transformation throughout the organization. Creating, promoting, and sustaining a dynamic digital-age learning culture that provides a rigorous, relevant, engaging education for all students. Collecting, monitoring, and analyzing data that contribute to increasing the academic achievement of all students, particularly students in historically underperforming groups. Supporting consistency in teaching and learning. Allowing for acceleration, enrichment, and remediation for all students. Providing real-time academic, social, and emotional supports for all students. Communicating effectively in speaking, writing, and listening.

Requirements

  • All must hold a Master's degree.
  • If hired for employment, the applicant must be able to submit the following: Criminal Record Check (less than one year old) PA Child Abuse History Clearance (less than one year old) FBI Finger Print Clearance (less than one year old) TB Test/Mantoux (less than 3 months old) Physical - if applicable (less than 1 year old)

Nice To Haves

  • A valid Pennsylvania K-12 Principal certification is highly preferred, or that the candidate is currently enrolled and working towards the K-12 Principal certification.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs/curriculum.
  • Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, and help teachers pilot them when appropriate.
  • Promote the use of innovative technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • School/Organizational Climate Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
  • Treat all students, staff, parents, and community members with sensitivity and fairness.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management Support building operations in the principal's absence.
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Assist with safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Comply with federal, state laws, and board policy Professional Growth and Development Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignments.
  • Provide support and resources to advance the professional development of district/building staff.
