About The Position

Dean of Students may include student management such as discipline and attendance; management of student activities; and/or proactive behavior intervention work with students and families. Administrative needs and processes will be determined once the administrative team has been determined.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (School leadership or administration)
  • Colorado Principal License
  • Three (3) years successful teaching and a successful leadership internship
  • PRAXIS (passed)

Nice To Haves

  • Three years successful teaching or prior job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in school setting
  • Bilingual-Spanish
  • CPI training (Can obtain certification after hire)

Responsibilities

  • Experience with Student Behavior
  • Works in a proactive manner with students, staff, and families regarding behavioral and attendance expectations.
  • Provides information to students and parents regarding district and school policies.
  • Assists in the planning, developing and implementation of individual student behavior plans.
  • Serves as a resource to staff in dealing with student management issues in the classroom, in the hallways, in the cafeteria, and on the playground.
  • Participate with the PBIS Team developing and/or refining structures that promote positive behavior as well as intervention strategies that support students in their time at school.
  • Confers appropriate consequences for behavior as assigned in accordance with the district matrix.
  • Maintains accurate records relative to disciplinary cases addressed.
  • Experience with Attendance and Discipline
  • Keeps an accurate record of attendance and tardiness in compliance with the District's policy.
  • Be highly visible around the building and grounds before and after school, during lunch periods, and while students are changing classes.
  • Supervises students during the lunch periods.
  • Collaborates with other administrators in monitoring the students assigned to detention daily.
  • Keeps the administrative team well informed as to the operational climate of the school community as well as other developments which might affect the school.
  • Develops and/or refines attendance processes to support and/or intervene with students and families who exhibit attendance irregularities.
  • Arrange parental conferences with students who violate student regulations as it pertains to attendance and/or general discipline problems.
  • Make "home visits" on students who have severe attendance problems.
  • Collaborates with other administrators to monitor assignment of student's in-house suspension and/or suspension.
  • Experience with Community Partnerships
  • Promote student understanding of both their rights and responsibilities as school and community citizens.
  • Maintain good relationships with community agencies including police departments, Department of Social Services, etc.
  • Assists in the interpretation of school and district policies and procedures to students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to substance abuse and truancy from school.
  • Maintain Extra-Curricular and Security Responsibilities
  • Oversee all athletic activities and manage athletic budget.
  • Attends extra co-curricular activities on an as-needed basis to be determined by principal.
  • Participates in the coordination, implementation, and supervision of extra co-curricular activities.
  • Track athletic eligibility.
  • Create and manage athletic and activities calendar.
  • Oversee and evaluate coaches and employees throughout the school year.
  • Safety Responsibilities
  • Assists in developing, refining, and administering practices dealing with campus control and security.
