About The Position

The job of Dean of Students Leadership is done for the purpose/s of working with students whose behavior, school progress, and social skills indicate a need for assistance while supporting the school principal, school personnel and students to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Requirements

  • Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: skill in applying accepted instructional methods/techniques, skill in interpersonal relations with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the general public, and skill in assessing student needs.
  • Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.
  • In working with others, independent problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Problem-solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and community members.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with key stakeholders through a variety of methods.
  • Provide leadership of behavior management and supervision and facilitate the resolution of conflict.
  • Plan, organize, and manage time utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations with pupils, parents, teachers, staff, and the general public.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of classroom teaching and/or leadership experience in a school setting demonstrating use and implementation of successful student behavior management strategies.
  • Experience in dealing with and managing student behaviors and positive behavioral interventions and support.
  • Creating and implementing student behavior expectations and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques and instructional technology and the ability to integrate it into the elementary curriculum.
  • Experience providing coaching support to teachers.
  • Knowledge of state policy and laws affecting the management of student behaviors and MTSS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Valid teaching license and/or administrative license
  • Pre-employment TB Test

Responsibilities

  • Champion for Students: Nurtures small groups of students in finding their voice as leaders who embody the Profile of SC Graduate
  • Develops and coordinates student-centered curricular activities to reduce time spent outside of the classroom setting
  • Works with students to develop leadership attributes, executive functioning skills, and conflict management strategies to increase self-awareness and regulation
  • Holds students accountable for developing and maintaining appropriately high expectations of behavior and engagement that are ambitious and measurable
  • Identifies and addresses social, emotional, and behavioral needs to address learning barriers
  • Monitors and analyze student behavioral data to inform mentoring needs
  • Guides students in their learning using a variety of techniques to increase self-motivation & goal-setting ability
  • Support for Teachers: Supports teachers in creating classroom environments that are conducive to both collaborative and individual learning
  • Models student engagement strategies for other teachers to observe
  • Observes and documents student engagement in the learning environment and measures individual progress
  • Partnership with Administrators : Provides leadership in school and district initiatives (eg. Leader in Me, MTSS, etc.)
  • Collaborates on identifying professional development needs for teachers to support classroom management, student motivation, and engagement
  • Provides recommendations, support, and thought-partnership on responding to student behavioral needs
  • Resource for Parents: Collaborates with parents and participates in parent-teacher conferences to provide insight into esteem needs and behavioral barriers that impact student success
  • Shares ideas and resources to reinforce strategies practiced in school
  • Professional Expectations: Participates in ongoing professional development, reflection, and continuous improvement.
  • Promotes a positive learning environment for students by modeling learning engagement and motivation strategies.
  • Models a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport
  • Develops and maintains genuine, positive, and consistent communication with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other leaders
  • Solicits and eagerly receives feedback from supervisor and team members to improve professional skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
