About The Position

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Hudson Valley has an extension center in Malta, NY known as HVCC North and sponsors the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, NY. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must be either a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check. The Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs or designee and performs the following duties: 1. Promotes the goals and objectives of the College, administers the Faculty Agreement and Department Chairpersons Agreements, and makes recommendations to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. 2. Works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and institutional leadership to advance high-quality instruction, innovative program development, student success, industry partnership, and community engagement. 3. Assumes overall responsibility for the supervision of instruction and, in collaboration with Department Chairs and/or Curriculum Coordinators, provides academic leadership for the Division, ensures programs meet accreditation and regulatory requirements, and evaluates program effectiveness using data-driven strategies while implementing improvements. 4. Reviews and supports relevant programs, curricula and courses pertinent to Division and monitors program enrollments on a yearly basis. 5. Initiates, writes, and/or assists in the preparation of external grant applications, and retains responsibility for grant oversight, as applicable. 6. Collaborate with industry to align curricula with workforce needs and emerging technologies. Represents the STEM division internally and externally to advance institutional visibility. 7. Promote professional development, scholarly activity, and instructional excellence. 8. Oversees preparation of faculty schedules, examination schedules, class sizes, class loads, student schedules and submits required catalog and promotional material. 9. Evaluates and makes recommendations for staff and faculty; prepares and coordinates divisional reports as required by the Vice President of Administration, the Vice President for Student Services, and the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. 10. Makes recommendations concerning campus-wide policies and regulations. 11. Approves and assists in the development of any programmatic or technological upgrades, within budget limits, including all instructional materials for class, laboratory and library usage in academic areas of responsibility. 12. Coordinates and assumes leadership role on advisory, departmental and College committees. 13. Accomplishes special projects as assigned by the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. 14. Submits an annual report to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, describing events and/or accomplishments for those activities under their administrative authority including measurable goals for the next academic year. 15. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $110,000-$125,000. Requirements

  • PhD in or related to a curriculum represented in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) from an accredited college or university, and three years of progressive administrative experience at the Department Chairperson level or higher that includes program development and implementation, budgetary management, curriculum development/revision and faculty staff supervision.
  • Demonstrated clear and effective communication skills, commitment and five years’ experience teaching full-time within a STEM area at a post-secondary institution.
  • Experience in supervision of program accreditation at the state or national level required.
  • Evidence of success as an innovator fundraiser capable of securing external grants.
  • The dean oversees all curricular, financial, and personnel-related issues in the respective division and must possess a management style that is both decisive and inclusive, encouraging a culture of collaboration, equity, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding and/or familiarity with SUNY student transfer policies or similar systemic approaches to student mobility, or appropriate comparable experience in a complex university system.
  • Experience in a post-secondary collective bargaining environment that values shared governance a plus.
  • Proven track record implementing technology both in and outside the classroom.
