About The Position

The Dean of Math Instruction for Upper Grades at Atlas Public Schools provides instructional leadership and coaching support to math teachers and math interventionists in upper grades. This role ensures high-quality implementation of the math curriculum, strong alignment between core instruction and intervention, and the effective use of data to drive continuous improvement. The Dean of Math Instruction oversees a coaching roster, manages Math Lab and intervention systems, supports online learning tools, and partners closely with school leadership to improve student outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification required, with experience teaching and coaching upper elementary or middle grades math preferred.
  • Strong understanding of upper elementary math standards, curriculum, and intervention strategies.
  • Experience working with data to inform instruction and intervention.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead unit unpacking and lesson internalization meetings to ensure teachers deeply understand grade-level standards, learning progressions, and instructional expectations.
  • Provide targeted coaching to math teachers through classroom observations, feedback cycles, and ongoing instructional planning support.
  • Support teachers in strengthening rigor, mathematical discourse, problem-solving, and conceptual understanding appropriate for upper elementary and middle school learners.
  • Ensure consistent and effective implementation of the math curriculum across classrooms.
  • Design and oversee the Math Lab structure to provide targeted skill-building, intervention, and/or enrichment aligned to core math instruction.
  • Facilitate regular Math Lab planning and rollout meetings to ensure teachers and interventionists are prepared with materials, pacing, and clear instructional goals.
  • Conduct observations of Math Lab instruction and provide actionable feedback to improve instructional quality and student engagement.
  • Ensure Math Lab programming is responsive to student data and evolving instructional needs.
  • Manage, coach, and support math interventionists.
  • Clarify roles, expectations, schedules, and instructional priorities for math interventionists.
  • Provide direct coaching, modeling, and feedback to interventionists to ensure effective delivery of targeted instruction.
  • Partner with classroom teachers and interventionists to ensure strong alignment between intervention and core classroom instruction.
  • Monitor intervention effectiveness and adjust approaches based on student progress data.
  • Support teachers and interventionists in assigning and monitoring online learning tools.
  • Monitor student progress and usage data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Communicate with families as needed regarding online math programs.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret math assessment data to inform instructional planning, intervention placement, and progress monitoring.
  • Lead data review conversations with teachers and interventionists to identify trends, gaps, and next steps.
  • Support accurate and meaningful math-related report card feedback.
  • Work with school leadership to identify students in need of additional academic support and ensure coordinated response plans.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to align math instruction, intervention, and assessment systems with school-wide priorities.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and growth-oriented culture among math teachers and interventionists.
  • Stay current on best practices in upper elementary math instruction and intervention.
  • Participate in professional development to strengthen instructional leadership and coaching skills.
  • Engage in related responsibilities and initiatives as needed to support the evolving needs of the math program.
