About The Position

The Dean of Culture is a senior school leader responsible for cultivating, protecting, and sustaining a safe, structured, student-centered school culture that promotes academic success, character development, and positive behavior. This role encompasses and expands upon the traditional responsibilities of a Dean of Students, with a strong emphasis on culture-building, systems leadership, proactive behavior supports, and restorative practices. The Dean of Culture provides direct leadership to student support personnel, including the Behavioral Interventionist and School Counselor, and ensures that systems related to student conduct, supervision, and school operations are executed with consistency, equity, and fidelity. The Dean of Culture leads results by strategically planning and prioritizing culture initiatives, solving complex student and systems challenges, driving measurable outcomes for students, and consistently leading using data to inform decisions and improve schoolwide systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students in an instructional, counseling, or administrative role.
  • Demonstrated success in building school culture and managing student behavior systems.
  • Strong knowledge of PBIS, restorative practices, and trauma-informed approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary steward of school culture, ensuring a positive, orderly, and mission-aligned environment across all settings.
  • Lead the implementation of schoolwide behavior expectations, PBIS systems, restorative practices, and character education initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong, visible presence throughout the building to reinforce expectations and support students and staff.
  • Model professionalism, emotional intelligence, and calm leadership in high-stakes or challenging situations.
  • Strategically plan and prioritize culture initiatives to ensure alignment with school improvement goals and measurable student outcomes.
  • Oversee and manage student discipline in accordance with the Student Handbook, ensuring equitable, consistent, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Investigate behavioral incidents, facilitate restorative conferences, and lead reentry meetings following suspensions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of discipline, interventions, and outcomes in PowerSchool and other required systems.
  • Analyze discipline and behavior data to identify trends and proactively address areas of concern.
  • Utilize discipline, attendance, and behavioral data to drive decision-making and implement targeted interventions that improve student outcomes.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and sound decision-making when addressing complex or high-impact student situations.
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to the Behavioral Interventionist and School Counselor, ensuring alignment of services and consistent implementation of supports.
  • Collaborate with student support teams to develop, monitor, and adjust Student Success Plans (SSPs) and behavior intervention plans.
  • Support social-emotional learning initiatives and coordinate targeted interventions for students requiring additional support.
  • Drive measurable improvements in student behavior and social-emotional growth through clearly defined goals, action plans, and accountability measures.
  • Oversee all arrival and dismissal procedures, ensuring student safety, efficiency, and adherence to established protocols.
  • Develop, assign, and monitor staff duty schedules for arrival, dismissal, and transitions throughout the day.
  • Oversee lunch duty and cafeteria operations, ensuring orderly behavior, consistent expectations, and a positive student experience.
  • Collaborate with operations staff, teachers, and administrators to continuously improve supervision systems and traffic flow.
  • Address issues related to chronic absenteeism, tardiness, and early dismissals in collaboration with school leadership and student support teams.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for families regarding student behavior, supervision expectations, and culture-related concerns.
  • Communicate with families in a professional, respectful, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Support teachers with classroom management strategies aligned to the school’s Playbook and cultural expectations.
  • Reinforce consistent implementation of routines, procedures, and expectations across classrooms and common areas.
  • Partner with instructional leaders to ensure that culture systems support uninterrupted learning.
  • Assist with supervision and logistics for schoolwide events, testing days, drills, and special programs.
  • Support emergency procedures, crisis response, and safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal to support the overall mission and success of the school.
