About The Position

The Dean of Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services provides administrative and instructional leadership for academic programs, faculty, and staff in preparing students for careers in business, humanities, and human and public services. The dean oversees all aspects to ensure academic excellence, curriculum development and implementation, and student success across programs and disciplines. The dean is pivotal in fostering collaboration, promoting community engagement, and advancing the College’s mission through effective program management, advisory council engagement, and career center oversight. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the dean is key in shaping the future of the NIACC (North Iowa Area Community College) Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services division, enhancing student success while effectively managing programs, accreditation, resources, and personnel. First consideration will be given to applications received by March 6, 2026.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Business, Humanities or Human & Public Services from an accredited college or university.
Five (5) years of teaching experience in an academic discipline represented within the Division.
Minimum of five (5) years of educational administration experience in postsecondary education setting, such as a program lead, department chair or director, including a minimum of two years in a supervisor role.
Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to work independently as well as within a team setting.

Nice To Haves

Doctorate degree in Business, Humanities or Human & Public Services preferred.
Experience teaching at the community college level also preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute a strategic vision for Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services programs aligned with the College’s mission and goals.
Lead initiatives to enhance program quality, relevance, and responsiveness to industry trends and workforce demands in Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services fields.
Oversee the current and future regional career academies to serve high school partners in offering programs to address workforce needs.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting, criminal justice, and psychology programs, including scheduling, budget management, and resource allocation.
Provide leadership for the Fine and Performing Arts Department which includes oversight of the art gallery and student art exhibits.
Provide oversight of vocal and band performing arts which includes recruitment and performances.
Ensure program review process is quality and has rigor to ensure comprehensive review is accurate to inform future program decisions.
Convene Program Advisory Council meetings as required.
Recruit, mentor, and support faculty and staff within the Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services divisions.
Observe and evaluate all full-time faculty on a regular basis, providing feedback and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Build collaborative relationships with faculty and staff, administering programmatic policies, procedures, and opportunities effectively and efficiently.
Ensure adjunct faculty are observed regularly and provided professional development.
Foster a culture of professional growth, collaboration, and excellence in teaching.
Oversee the development, revision, and assessment of curricula within Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services disciplines, ensuring alignment with industry standards and educational outcomes.
Promote innovative teaching methodologies and technologies to enhance student learning experiences and skills development.
Identify and implement new courses and programs.
Provide leadership in program review and assessment to ensure students are gaining knowledge and skill set to be successful in the workplace or next step in education.
Remain current in national, regional, and local trends related to Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services.
Serve on state committee for transfer agreements.
Work with our four-year partners to increase articulation agreements.
Provide leadership in meeting the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) standards to ensure compliance.
Prepare recommendations for and administer the Division’s budget, overseeing all expenditures for goods, services, and personnel in collaboration with the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Ensure efficient allocation and utilization of resources to support program goals and enhance student success.
Manage the acquisition, administration, and compliance of grants supporting Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services initiatives.
Develop grant proposals, budgets, and reports in collaboration with faculty and staff to secure external funding.
Promote student engagement, retention, and success within Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services programs with marketing and other departments.
Collaborate with student development departments to provide comprehensive academic advising, career counseling, and support services tailored to Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services career pathways.
Cultivate and maintain partnerships with business industries, employers, and community organizations.
Facilitate internship, job placement, and research opportunities for students in collaboration with career counselors.
Serve as a liaison between the College and external stakeholders to promote Business, Humanities & Human & Public Services programs and initiatives.
Maintain strong organizational skills, demonstrate reliability, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Fulfill other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
