About The Position

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA. Maintains program site and equipment. Maintains required program records. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training. Performs other duties as assigned. Locations Camp Vanasek in Baxter on Whipple Lake Wage $13-$17 per hour

Requirements

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
  • Working towards high School graduate or equivalent; one or more years of college preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Understands the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
