About The Position

The Day School Early Childhood Education Floating Teacher has the secondary responsibility of supporting the classroom teaching team. The floating teacher has the primary responsibility to willingly be adaptable and flexible to meet the specific and unanticipated needs for coverage in any classroom at the FPC Day School throughout the day. Additionally, a floating teacher supports the assigned classrooms teaching team in providing a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills through play.

Requirements

  • The Day School Early Childhood Education Floating Teacher must possess essential character traits such as caring, patience, flexibility, and compassion.
  • A degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) and high-level knowledge of child development are required.
  • A minimum of one year work experience with young children in a classroom environment.
  • Must be willing to complete 36 hours of approved training yearly, including child development, administration, CPR, and first aid training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs; plans and implements curriculum and education for children ranging in age from six weeks to five years old.
  • Provides activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to children's developmental levels and learning styles.
  • Plans and prepares classroom setting; oversees safety and educational programs; actively supervises children in and outside of the classroom; provides a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.
  • Interact with parents and community groups; maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families; facilitates parent conferences, encourages their involvement in the program, and support the child's family relationships.
  • Writes and compiles individual assessments of each child's development; completes daily inventories, child attendance, and related reports.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and show pleasure in working with and caring for young children.
  • Serves as a team member in each assigned classroom.
  • Make sure ratios are maintained in the classroom at all times.
  • Attend mandatory training receiving a minimum of 36 hours per year.
  • Document the occurrence of significant incidents, and notify the Executive Director
  • Acknowledges and corrects mistakes timely and directly and conducts activities in an ethical and dependable manner.
  • Inform Assistant Director of any concerns or praise from parents.
