About The Position
The Day Program Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive day program environment. Specialists facilitate meaningful activities, support skill development, and ensure each participant receives consistent attention and care throughout the day. This role directly supports DHR’s mission by helping individuals explore personal interests, hobbies, and community involvement while promoting a high quality of life. We work as a team to ensure every day is purposeful, engaging, and supportive for the individuals we serve.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; relevant experience preferred
- Passion for working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines
- Experience with electronic documentation or data entry preferred
- Ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain active throughout the day
- Minimum age of 21 with an excellent driving record and ability to pass background checks

Responsibilities
- Actively engage with participants to promote inclusion, independence, and well-being
- Lead and support activities such as arts and crafts, music, exercise, games, and community outings
- Build positive, supportive relationships through consistent interaction
- Support daily needs with dignity, safety, and respect
- Collaborate with team members to plan and implement group and individualized activities
- Assist with curriculum development, volunteerism, and community engagement opportunities
- Serve as an instructor for scheduled classes and activities
- Promote health and wellness
- Provide transportation and maintain clean, well-kept vehicles
- Complete documentation accurately and on time
- Follow all health, safety, and behavior support protocols
- Participate in trainings, meetings, and committees as needed
