About The Position

The Day Camp Floater position supports counselors and program leaders in providing a safe, fun, and engaging summer camp experience for children ages 5 – 11. This seasonal role helps supervise campers during daily activities and field trips, assists with program activities, and supports the overall care and well-being of participants. The assistant follows all safety, Safe From Harm, and childcare licensing guidelines, helps manage camper behavior, keeps program areas clean and organized, and participates ins scheduled activities, meetings and trainings throughout the day camp season.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Some High School
  • Previous experience working with youth
  • Ability to lead and participate in group activities
  • Ability to complete basic paperwork and documentation accurately
  • Ability to model positive behavior
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems
  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30 days
  • Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license and pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising an assigned group of youth ages 5-11 on site and on field trips.
  • Assist with the care and well-being of program participants and be aware of and follow all safety precautions and procedures, administering emergency first aid as needed and recording such treatment with proper documentation.
  • Responsible for knowing Safe From Harm program guidelines and following them.
  • Responsible for adhering to state childcare licensing guidelines, as instructed by supervisors.
  • Assist with mediating any behavior problems between campers that may arise.
  • Responsible for the implementation of program plans as assigned by the Community Center Director or assigned activity leads.
  • Willingness to participate and take a leadership role in all planned activities such as Bible study, swimming, group games, crafts, and music and more.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all areas and resources used by the day camp program.
  • Conform to the weekly schedule and attend all staff meetings.
  • Complete all paperwork and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
