Position Summary The Database Engineer at Longitude Rx is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers the company’s specialty-pharmacy analytics, operational workflows, and technology-enabled solutions. This role ensures that mission-critical data pipelines, databases, and APIs operate reliably, securely, and efficiently across all internal and partner-facing systems. The Database Engineer will work closely with analytics, product, operations, and IT teams to develop scalable data architectures that support growth, automation, and high-quality insights. In Longitude Rx’s fast-paced, evolving environment, this role requires a strong combination of technical engineering expertise, disciplined execution, and an understanding of healthcare data structures. The Database Engineer will play a central role in maintaining data quality, strengthening system security, improving performance, and enabling the organization to leverage data as a strategic asset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in data engineering, database development, or ETL pipeline design.
  • EPIC experience required.
  • Healthcare, pharmacy, or claims data experience preferred.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including performance tuning and complex query optimization.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration frameworks (e.g., SSIS, dbt, Azure Data Factory).
  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs or data-service layers.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, security practices, and auditability.
  • Familiarity with healthcare or pharmacy data structures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to SOC 2, HITRUST, or similar security/compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud data ecosystems, particularly Snowflake and AWS, to support scalable data pipelines and modern data-architecture design.
  • Experience with secure coding, encryption, OAuth/RBAC, and logging/monitoring tools.
  • Cloud platform experience (Azure or AWS).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain SQL databases, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data-ingestion processes across multiple sources.
  • Build and manage APIs and data services to enable secure and standardized data exchange between internal systems and external partners.
  • Design scalable data models, schemas, and workflows to support analytics, operational automation, and future system enhancements.
  • Implement data validation, logging, monitoring, and testing frameworks to ensure system reliability and accuracy.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for data discrepancies, breakages, or performance issues.
  • Implement durable solutions that prevent recurrence and improve long-term system stability.
  • Maintain documentation and standards that support reproducibility, transparency, and operational readiness.
  • Apply secure coding practices, access-control principles, and auditability measures across data systems.
  • Support SOC 2, HIPAA, and other security assessment requirements by maintaining compliant data-engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure adherence to encryption, identity management, and secure data-transfer protocols.
  • Partner with analysts, architects, operations, and product teams to translate business needs into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Support new initiatives including automation, system integrations, and technology modernization efforts.
