About The Position

This Database Administrator is a member of the Infrastructure Team as part of Marist Information Technology. This position’s primary responsibility is to provide database support to the production ERP suite. Secondary, this position will provide database support to multiple Marist database implementations (development, pre-production and production) including installation, configuration, performance tuning, as well as support interface and integrations. Essential technical duties include installation of database products, applying patches and upgrades, monitoring and tuning system performance, user access, database security, defining database tables, functions, views, packages, device configuration and planning. Database implementations include, but not limited to Oracle, MSSQL, AWS RDS, MySQL, and MariaDB.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
  • Three to five years of experience in the information technology field as a Database Administrator is required
  • Adaptability while working in a rapidly changing technological environment
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Linux and Windows Servers, Ellucian Banner / Oracle DBA and applications services such as Tomcat and WebLogic is preferred.
  • Attention to detail, strong ownership of one’s work, exceptional problem solving and project management skills is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Database Provisioning & Architecture: Design and implement database instances, schemas, and storage strategies for scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness on‑prem and cloud instances.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Monitor and tune databases and queries (indexes, execution plans, and resource governance).
  • Backup, Recovery & High Availability: Engineer backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) runbooks. Implement HA/BC/DR (e.g., clustering, replication, log shipping, Availability Groups, read replicas) and conduct regular restoration tests.
  • Security, Compliance & Access Control: Enforce least-privilege access, encryption at rest/in transit, secrets management, and key rotation. Implement auditing, data masking, and compliance controls with documented evidence.
  • Patch, Upgrade & Vulnerability Management: Plan and execute database patching, engine upgrades, and hotfix deployment with change control.
  • Monitoring and Incident Response: Implement robust monitoring and alerting (availability, latency, locks, replication lag, storage, job failures).
  • Data Lifecycle & Governance Support: Partner with application, data, and security teams on schema design, migration, retention, archival, and purging. Maintain accurate asset inventory, documentation, and data classification alignment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

University pays 100% tuition only. Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution. Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the University.
