Database Administrator

AvitureOmaha, NE
Hybrid

About The Position

We’re looking for a Database Administrator who doesn’t just keep systems alive; you make them reliable, secure, and ready for what’s next. At Aviture, we build software that has to work. Government systems, commercial platforms, high-stakes environments where downtime isn’t just inconvenient. It’s unacceptable. That means the data layer matters. A lot. We’re looking for someone who can own that layer end-to-end: from keeping legacy systems stable to helping modern platforms scale. This role is a part of a remote program, but you won’t be working in a vacuum. You’ll be embedded with delivery teams supporting real programs, starting with a large-scale recruiting system used worldwide. It’s a mix of old and new: an Oracle-backed legacy platform alongside a transition to modern CRM systems like Salesforce. Your job is to keep everything running while helping us move things forward, without breaking what already works. This isn’t a “set it and forget it” database role. This is hands-on, in the weeds, making sure the foundation holds while everything around it evolves.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing production databases where uptime and data integrity actually mattered.
  • Active DoD/DoW Secret Clearance is required.
  • Security+ CE (IAT Level II) certification.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle in real-world environments.
  • A solid understanding of backup/recovery strategies, system monitoring, and performance tuning—including diagnosing query issues, indexing problems, and resource bottlenecks.
  • Experience working in environments with strict security requirements (STIG, RMF, or similar), and a clear understanding of how to implement and maintain compliant systems.
  • Comfort with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, or PowerShell) to reduce manual work and improve reliability.
  • Experience working directly with developers to optimize queries, support data models, and ensure the database supports how the application actually behaves.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database environments (AWS, Azure, etc.) and an understanding of how database management shifts between on-prem and cloud.
  • A strong sense of ownership when it comes to data integrity, consistency, and risk, especially in systems that can’t afford to fail.
  • The ability to troubleshoot under pressure and make smart decisions when things don’t go as planned.
  • Clear communication skills. You can explain what’s happening, why it matters, and what needs to happen next.

Nice To Haves

  • Have experience supporting large, distributed systems with global users.
  • Have worked through system modernization efforts (e.g., legacy to cloud or CRM platforms like Salesforce).
  • Are comfortable working across multiple database technologies or cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and administering database environments across applications by provisioning, configuring, and tuning for performance that holds up under real use.
  • Keeping legacy Oracle systems stable and secure while supporting modernization efforts and system transitions.
  • Planning and executing database patching and upgrades without disrupting mission-critical operations.
  • Designing and maintaining backup and recovery strategies that actually work when you need them.
  • Monitoring database health, performance, and availability, and fixing problems before anyone else notices them.
  • Implementing and enforcing database security controls (access, auditing, encryption) in regulated environments.
  • Working closely with developers, DevOps, and program teams to make sure data systems support how applications are actually built and used.
  • Documenting what matters so that systems are maintainable, auditable, and not dependent on tribal knowledge.

Benefits

  • PPO or a High Deductible Health Plan, HSA eligible plan, Dental, Vision, and Supplemental Life.
  • Generous paid time off that starts accruing on day one.
  • Hybrid work environment with quarterly Castaway Week events in the Omaha HQ Office, all expenses paid, from across the country to participate in team-building, collaboration, and fun events.
  • Matching 401k with 100% vesting in six months.
  • Pick your preferred workstation! Mac? PC? We’ll support you with the tech you need to do your best work.
  • Get paid to go to national and international conferences and training, so that you can stay up to date with the latest innovations.
  • Flexible work schedules: Work the times that fits your schedule, with all meetings required to be scheduled between 9 am and 3 pm CST.
  • Free lunch every Friday and recurring team events for you and your family to enjoy.
  • Incentive and bonus pay.
  • Opportunities for connection and growth through peer coaching, recurring Lightning Talks to share things we’re passionate about, and a bi-weekly company-wide All Hands.
