The Department of Economic Security is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Database Administrator Senior. The Database Administrator Senior maintains the Division’s database systems, including back-up, performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring critical events, and documentation. This position works with business teams and IT teams to develop an understanding of data and information needs, identify solutions, and improve the quality of service while providing support through the logical and physical design of databases. The Database Administrator Senior provides strategic guidance toward the implementation and utilization of data warehouse and other data sources, maintains the integrity of the Division’s databases, and ensures that data is stored securely and efficiently. This position is conversant with and cognizant of the future direction of systems, how that directly impacts the organization, and how future and current database systems can be developed for the organization’s benefit. This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.   • Install and support relational database management systems (RDMS).
  • Evaluate and test emerging technologies.
  • Apply creative solutions to business problems to ensure business needs are effectively met.
  • coordinate and solve moderately complex technical data management issues.
  • Disaster recovery, performance analysis, and tuning.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and five (5) or more years of experience in database administration (or equivalent experience).

Responsibilities

  • Proactively solves complex problems and translates user needs into sound database design with tables, fields, and relationships documented.
  • Assists in developing purge/archive criteria and procedures for historical application data on a relational model database environment.
  • Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements, and maintains organization databases. Implements and reviews appropriate security guidelines and mechanisms.
  • Develops and tests database migration procedures.
  • Performs database maintenance functions.
  • Develops database administration tools, utilities, and operational procedures.
  • Establishes database procedures and standards.
  • Assists in database design.
  • Educates users and maintains database documentation. Assists in interviewing and training new employees and provides guidance when required.
  • Performance tunes, reviews, and recommends improvements to existing codes.
  • Reviews and recommends improvements to existing architectures.
  • Documents data requirements in a logical Entity Relationship Diagram.
  • Troubleshoots application key selection, creation of appropriate indexes, and query needs.
