About The Position
The Database Administrator III (Cloud & DevSecOps Focus) is responsible for optimizing, monitoring, and maintaining the performance of Development, Test, and Production Oracle databases on Red Hat Linux, utilizing Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and industry best practices. This role is crucial for supporting modernization and cloud migration efforts, including assisting in the migration of on-premises databases to cloud-native or hybrid environments like AWS GovCloud, and supporting database refactoring for microservices-based architectures. The administrator will configure and maintain RMAN backups, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery strategies across both on-prem and cloud environments, and use Oracle Data Pump for export/import operations. Collaboration with technical leads and software development teams is essential for integrating database changes into CI/CD pipelines, supporting automated deployments and schema versioning, and aligning updates with DevSecOps sprint cycles. The position also involves implementing and supporting DevSecOps practices such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Configuration as Code (CaC), automated build/test/deployment of database changes, and integration with enterprise CI/CD toolchains. Cybersecurity is a key focus, requiring the application, implementation, testing, and maintenance of processes like POAMs and STIGs, quarterly Oracle Critical Patch Updates, and secure database account management. Troubleshooting application and database issues, implementing Risk Management Framework (RMF) IA controls, and supporting high availability and scalability architectures are also core responsibilities. The role demands compliance with DoD and Service-specific policies and proficiency with AWS database services and tools.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 7–10 years of relevant experience (5 years with a Master’s degree).
- Demonstrated experience with Oracle database administration in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience with Cloud environments and/or database migration efforts.
- Demonstrated experience with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Security+ certification required.
- U.S. Government Active TS/SCI clearance required.
Nice To Haves
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (or higher, e.g., Solutions Architect).
- Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional.
- Additional DevSecOps or cloud certifications (e.g., Kubernetes, Terraform) are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Optimize, monitor, and maintain performance of Development, Test, and Production Oracle databases on Red Hat Linux using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and industry best practices.
- Assist in migration of on-premises databases to cloud-native or hybrid environments (e.g., AWS GovCloud).
- Support database refactoring for microservices-based architectures (schema decomposition, service-aligned data models).
- Configure and maintain RMAN backups, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery strategies across on-prem and cloud environments.
- Utilize Oracle Data Pump for database export/import operations, including support for environment promotion and migration activities.
- Collaborate with technical leads and software development teams to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.
- Support automated database deployments and schema versioning (e.g., Liquibase, Flyway, or equivalent).
- Align database updates with iterative DevSecOps sprint cycles.
- Implement and support DevSecOps practices including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC) for database environments.
- Automated build, test, and deployment of database changes.
- Integration with enterprise CI/CD toolchains.
- Apply, implement, test, and maintain Cybersecurity processes (POAMs, STIGs) to database systems, including automated compliance validation where applicable.
- Apply quarterly Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) and ensure patching aligns with enterprise DevSecOps release schedules.
- Perform database account management, including creation/deactivation and maintenance of Oracle wallets and secure authentication mechanisms.
- Troubleshoot application and database issues using Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQLPlus, SQL Developer, and cloud-native monitoring tools.
- Implement and maintain Risk Management Framework (RMF) IA controls in accordance with NIST 800-53, supporting continuous ATO (cATO) objectives.
- Support high availability and scalability architectures, including replication, clustering, and cloud-managed database services where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable DoD and Service-specific policies for system configuration, cybersecurity, and lifecycle sustainment.
- Utilize and support Amazon Web Services (AWS) database services and tools, including RDS / Aurora (as applicable), CloudWatch monitoring and alerting, and secure network and access configurations.
