Job Summary This position will be in a MySQL environment; however, candidates with strong DBA backgrounds in SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc., will be considered if they have an interest in learning MySQL. FreeWheel is seeking a Database Administrator who will report to the Operations DBA Manager to assist in managing databases that support critical line-of-business applications. This individual will own critical changes to production databases in collaboration with the Engineering team, offering guidance and ensuring seamless coordination of these changes while maintaining a high Service Level Objective (99.99% uptime, etc.) commitment. In addition to the technical responsibilities, the ideal candidate should be a valuable team member who is open to giving and receiving recommendations regarding the design of the production environment. Lastly, this role requires adherence to all global DBA team conventions, processes, guidelines, priorities, cadences, tooling, etc., and providing support for all requirements from the US side ENG (and other stakeholders), executing key projects, handling BAU tasks, being on-call, and bridging the gap between the different teams from different locations. Job Description About You Experience with end-to-end database management experience, including installation, monitoring, performance tuning, backup/recovery, replication, and HA/DR solutions. Eager to expand your expertise to new database technologies as required by FreeWheel’s evolving business needs Working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems (e.g., Rocky Linux, Red Hat, Debian, CentOS) is a plus. Familiar with cloud platforms, especially AWS or OCI. Comfortable working with geographically distributed systems across WAN environments. Proven ability to troubleshoot, design, and build fault-tolerant systems. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent professional experience. Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Communicating database changes and impacts to stakeholders, providing recommendations and consulting on solutions
  • Ensuring database hardware is optimized for performance, conduct capacity planning, and manage the implementation of new database systems
  • Collaborating with Project Managers to design database solutions that align with project objectives and business needs
  • Guiding development teams on application schema design, advocating for best practices in database management
  • Overseeing the commissioning and installation of new database applications, ensuring seamless integration
  • Leading task forces for the development and implementation of databases that address specific business requirements
  • Staying informed on new database technologies, trends, and features, advising the organization on potential adoptions
  • Developing and enforce database administration policies, standards, and guidelines to effectively manage the database environment
  • Designing and executing database backup and recovery plans, ensuring data preservation and system resilience
  • Optimizing database systems for high availability and high-volume internet applications, performing regular maintenance and tuning
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
