About The Position

Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities (UGMTC) provides emergency shelter, food, basic needs and wraparound programs for people facing homelessness, hunger and addiction in the community. Located in Saint Paul, UGMTC opened its doors in 1902 and has been feeding, sheltering and offering the hope of Jesus Christ to people in need ever since. POSITION SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, the Data Specialist provides comprehensive support for CaseWorthy, UGMTC’s program management database. Responsibilities include making data changes, performing verifications, managing data transfers, and overseeing integrations, all with appropriate documentation to ensure alignment with UGMTC’s mission, values, and goals. The Data Specialist ensures program staff use the database correctly and maintain accurate resident records. This role is also responsible for producing program reports and statistics that serve staff, management, donors, and the public. Additionally, the Data Specialist prepares official UGMTC reports for both internal management and external publication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with SQL database management, statistical data analysis and reporting, preferably using SSRS, Power BI, and Excel Pivot.
  • Experience or desire to work with underserved communities and people experiencing homelessness, poverty, or addiction
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, have attention to detail and complete all assignments in a timely manner.
  • Experience working effectively with confidential information.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, CaseWorthy and other business-related software applications.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and document technical information in non-technical terms both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage SQL databases.
  • Experience gathering, processing, and analyzing data, formatting and preparing reports.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work one-on-one and in group settings with a wide range of constituencies in a culturally diverse community.

Responsibilities

  • Database Administration & Support Provide in-person CaseWorthy technical support and training to staff across departments.
  • Troubleshoot CaseWorthy issues and communicate with CaseWorthy account manager or contracted data support to resolve tickets efficiently.
  • Advocate for UGMTC staff requests and track resolutions.
  • Collaborate with IT on database enhancements and ensure hardware/software compatibility.
  • Maintain data integrity by performing regular quality checks and data cleaning.
  • Communicate and document procedures, definitions, and updates for database users.
  • Reporting & Data Quality Coordinate with program and reporting staff to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Run reports and support data analysis for outcomes, program metrics, and compliance.
  • Collect, input, and manage data for satisfaction surveys, HMIS reporting, and internal dashboards.
  • Format and prepare reports for internal use, grants, donors, and external stakeholders.
  • Program Support & On-Site Coordination Provide on-site physical backup to Admin staff.
  • Assist with timely entry of program-specific forms (e.g., clothing distribution, intake documents) that must be completed on-site.
  • Serve as an on-site help desk presence in staff areas, improving accessibility to systems support.
  • Support real-time data collection and entry during guest-facing activities.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, staff training, and collaborative projects.
  • Special Projects & System Development Coordinate special projects that enhance database use, expand program reporting, or improve analytics.
  • Support the implementation of CaseWorthy in new program areas or service expansions.
  • Collaborate with staff to design new tools, reports, or features that improve data tracking and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the development of SOPs, workflows, and training guides for emerging data processes.
