About The Position

Morningstar is seeking a Data Product Manager to join the Central Technology Product Development team, focusing on Business Intelligence Reporting. This role is pivotal in developing and delivering data products that influence business decisions and enhance customer experiences. The position is based in Chicago and involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, business stakeholders, and design teams, to define, develop, and launch innovative data-driven products. The primary objective is to create and optimize products that deliver measurable value to both the organization and its customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 6-8 years of product management experience
  • Strong understanding of data engineering, analytics, and data science concepts
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI and familiarity with SQL or other query languages
  • Basic understanding of Data Transformation techniques (ELT vs ETL, Data deduplication, Data aggregation etc.)
  • Ability to translate complex data concepts into clear, actionable product requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical, with the ability to present complex ideas to a wide range of audiences
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and product management tools like JIRA, Asana etc.
  • Balance competing demands and manage the product backlog
  • Familiarity with data discovery tools like Postman and Database tools like DBeaver.

Responsibilities

  • Define the product vision, goals, and roadmap for data products
  • Execute product roadmap collaborating within Agile principles managing the backlog and planning the iterations
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand data needs, pain points, and goals
  • Gather requirements, translating business needs into data product specifications
  • Act as the bridge between data engineering and business teams to ensure alignment
  • Ensure that data products adhere to data governance standards, including data quality, security, and privacy
  • Work with data engineering and business teams to oversee product development, ensure timelines are met, and manage dependencies
  • Develop training materials, documentation, and user guides to drive product adoption
  • Monitor data quality and reliability, working with engineering teams to address issues and continuously improve data products
  • Leverage AI across all aspects of central technology to support automation enabled infrastructure
  • Partner with vendors and assist with regular vendor communications.
