About The Position

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Data Operations / Designee, responsible for providing operational database services to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office; ensures accuracy/integrity of data and applications through analysis, coding, writing clear documentation and problem resolution; analyzes and translates functional specifications and changes requests into technical specifications; develops, tests and implements program logic; translates business needs into end user applications; performs data analyst and modeling activities for a business-driven operational layer which integrates multiple master data domains and reference data and exposes the integrated data to enterprise wide applications via web services.

Requirements

  • Expertise with SQL, PL/SQL and/or T-SQL.
  • Experience in data processing and data integration development (RESTful APIs and JSON)
  • Expertise in Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes using SSIS.
  • Knowledge of proficiency in cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure and AWS.
  • Understanding data modeling concepts and practices for designing efficient databases and data architectures.
  • Understanding of data governance principles and security best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the business environment, using tact and courtesy and use sound judgment in interpreting problems and issues related to work assignment.
  • Ability to create and prepare reports, including technical documentation, as required.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize, handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines while effectively managing changing priorities, as needed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot by analyzing data and situations, reason logically and creatively, identify problems, draw valid conclusions and develop effective solutions.

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related discipline, from an accredited college or university, AND/OR minimum five (5) years in data integration, data warehousing, or a similar role.
  • Expertise with ETL tools and data integration platforms such as Informatica, Talend, or SSIS.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with SQL Server relational databases.
  • Strong proficiency with indexing and query optimization.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and data architecture principles.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and proof of vehicle insurance, with the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to work any shift assigned, including days, afternoons or midnights; must be capable of working Holidays and weekends; must be capable of working mandatory overtime, as required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • This position requires successful completion of post-offer tests, which may include a background check, drug screen and/or medical examination. Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Works with external agencies to integrate data into the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, maintaining and ensuring that data integrated into the Cook County Sheriff’s Office is normalized and accurate.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, data analyst, SQL Developers, and IT team members to understand data requirements and the end-to-end data flow.
  • Use a combination of programming languages, databases, and ETL tools to design and construct data integration and ETL processes.
  • Using ETL tools and scripting languages to develop and implement data integration workflows and routines.
  • Perform complex data analysis, data quality checks, and troubleshoot data issues.
  • Ensure high levels of data availability and quality, maintaining optimal performance of the data integration infrastructure.
  • Optimize data integration platforms for increased efficiency and performance.
  • Document data integration procedures, including data lineage and ETL processes.
  • Monitor data integration jobs and proactively respond to system alerts and issues, ensuring that data flows are accurate and timely.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and advancements in data integration technologies.
  • Performs production support activities as needed for this operational environment.
  • Performs other related assignments and duties as directed.

  • Deferred Compensation Program – Employees may elect to enroll in a deferred compensation plan, a tax deferred plan which may be used as a supplemental retirement option.
