About The Position

We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Project Manager to lead and deliver strategic initiatives that strengthen our enterprise data foundation. Based in Arlington, VA, you will serve as the operational backbone of our Data Governance program, coordinating cross-functional efforts to improve data quality, documentation, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing complex data programs, working with diverse stakeholders, and ensuring successful project outcomes in a regulated environment.

Requirements

  • Experience: 10+ years in project management, with at least 5 years specifically leading Data Governance, Data Quality, or Master Data Management (MDM) projects.
  • Certifications: PMP or equivalent required; Agile/Scrum and Data Management (CDMP) certifications preferred.
  • Tools: Expertise in JIRA, MS Project, or Smartsheet; familiarity with Data Catalog tools (Atlan, Alation, Collibra) is a significant plus.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) or highly regulated lending environments.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership, facilitation, and communication skills with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery: Manage end-to-end delivery of data governance initiatives, including the implementation of Atlan data catalog, metadata management, data quality management, sensitive data management and more.
  • Planning & Scheduling: Develop detailed project plans and roadmaps for priority domains, ensuring alignment with the Data Council’s strategic goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary coordinator for Data Stewards and executive leadership, facilitating meetings and ensuring clear communication across business and IT teams.
  • Risk & Compliance: Identify data-related risks and ensure all projects adhere to regulatory requirements (such as GLBA, FCRA, and ECOA) and internal governance standards.
  • AI Initiative Tracking: Coordinate and track the execution of AI-related governance tasks, ensuring explainability and quality standards are met for machine learning models.
  • Reporting: Provide regular status updates, dashboards, and maturity metrics to senior leadership to demonstrate program value and progress.
