About The Position

WCF Insurance Company is seeking a Data Governance Analyst to play a key role in preparing our organization's data for AI and advanced analytics. This full-time, exempt position is part of the Information Technology Department Data team and will report to the VP of Data and Business Intelligence. The Data Governance Analyst will lead efforts to prepare data for AI by building a modern governance program and improving data quality at the source. The ideal candidate is passionate about data quality, has strong analytical and communication skills, and can collaborate across business and technical teams to improve data at the source.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information management, computer science, business, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3–6+ years of experience in data governance, data quality, data management, or analytics/engineering roles.
  • Proficiency in SQL for profiling, cleansing, and root‑cause analysis.
  • Strong understanding of data normalization/denormalization and its impact on analytics.
  • Hands‑on experience implementing data quality rules, metrics, and remediation workflows.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks such as DAMA‑DMBOK (data ownership, stewardship, policies/standards, metadata).
  • Familiarity with change management.
  • Experience managing business glossaries and metadata.
  • Ability to collaborate with system owners to improve data capture data at the point of capture (UI/UX validations, reference data, master data, code sets).
  • Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and business perspectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience with data catalogs (Purview, Collibra, Alation).
  • Familiarity with MDM, reference data management, and AI/ML readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and oversee data governance policies, standards, roles, and processes.
  • Establish foundational governance structures where missing and create actionable roadmaps.
  • Define critical data elements, document data quality rules, monitor performance through scorecards and ensure remediation of issues.
  • Partner with application owners to resolve upstream data issues and support model or field validation improvements.
  • Maintain a centralized data glossary to standardize definitions across the company.
  • Use SQL for profiling, anomaly detection, data cleansing, and issue quantification.
  • Monitor compliance, privacy, security, and retention controls; support audits and risk mitigation.
  • Lead change management through training and resources to embed governance practices.
  • Set AI data readiness criteria and guide business domains toward compliance.
  • Report governance metrics and risks to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with our in-house legal team, compliance team, risk, and IT Department to help connect all regulatory and security requirements.
