About The Position

Interested in influencing what customers around the world see when they turn on Prime Video? The Prime Video Personalization and Discovery team matches customers with the right content at the right time, at all touch points throughout the content discovery journey. We are looking for an experienced Data Engineering Manager to develop data infrastructure and pipelines that power experiments and product analytics for personalization and discovery experiences. You'll work with a team of high-caliber data engineers to ensure analysts and product managers always have the data to measure and understand the impact of Prime Video's streaming experience on millions of customers across the world. You will own critical data infrastructure supporting personalization analytics, experimentation, and reporting. You'll operate in an environment where problems may be ambiguous and strategies undefined, requiring you to use technical expertise and sound judgment to define the right approach, establish metrics, and design long-term strategy. The Personalization and Discovery Analytics (PANDA) Data Engineering team builds the infrastructure that enables experimentation and analytics at scale—processing petabytes of customer interaction data daily to power A/B testing and analytics. We collaborate closely with product teams, data scientists, and economists to ensure data infrastructure supports both immediate business needs and long-term strategic initiatives. The team operates with high technical standards, strong ownership mentality, and a commitment to customer obsession. We prioritize simplicity, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering customers a vast collection of premium programming in one app available across thousands of devices. Prime members can customize their viewing experience and find their favorite movies, series, documentaries, and live sports – including Amazon MGM Studios-produced series and movies; licensed fan favorites; and programming from Prime Video add-on subscriptions such as Apple TV+, Max, Crunchyroll and MGM+. All customers, regardless of whether they have a Prime membership or not, can rent or buy titles via the Prime Video Store, and can enjoy even more content for free with ads. Requirements

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience managing a data or BI team
  • Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of your team or organization
  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
  • Experience hiring, developing and promoting engineering talent

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
  • Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EC2)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers responsible for building and scaling critical data products that power Prime Video personalization and discovery decisions
  • Design and operate scalable data infrastructure supporting petabyte-scale data processing, including data lakes, ETL/ELT pipelines, and low latency analytics capabilities to support over multiple director-level teams
  • Maintain data pipelines for personalization analytics reporting and data science, supporting insights into recommendation performance, customer behavior, and feature impact and metric development
  • Establish and enforce best practices for data engineering, including code reviews, testing strategies, CI/CD automation, monitoring, documentation, Airflow orchestration patterns, and AI capabilities
  • Define and communicate technical vision and long-term strategy for the data engineering team, navigating ambiguity and establishing clarity for teams
  • Lead roadmap creation in partnership with stakeholders, balancing business priorities, team capacity, and technical debt
  • Implement data governance, quality standards, and security practices aligned with compliance and regulatory requirements
