About The Position

The Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains scalable data pipelines, ensuring efficient data integration, transformation, and reliability across data infrastructure at Suffolk Credit Union. The Data Engineer has a strong background in data orchestration and management, with specific expertise in Airflow, Python, Windows batch scripting, Snowflake, SQL Server, and Power BI visualization. This role requires excellent communication skills and strong project management capabilities to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive data projects to successful completion.

Requirements

  • Experienced Data Engineer skilled in Snowflake, SQL Server, Python, Airflow, and Windows batch scripting.
  • Proficient in SQL and ETL/ELT frameworks, with expertise in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Strong background in data modeling, database design, and performance optimization for scalability.
  • Hands-on experience with data integration and delivery across APIs, SFTP, and cloud storage platforms.
  • Proven ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipelines to ensure reliability and data quality.
  • Demonstrated leadership in technical projects, automation, and workflow optimization.
  • Possesses strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with knowledge of credit union operations as a plus.
  • Qualified candidates will have an associates degree or post-secondary or technical education required; bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Mathematics preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of data warehousing, database design, and programming experience (Python preferred) required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain reliable and scalable data pipelines using Airflow.
  • Optimize data storage and processing in Snowflake and SQL Server for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources (APIs, SFTP, databases, cloud) through automated orchestration in Airflow.
  • Develop and enhance data solutions using Python and Windows batch scripting.
  • Write, tune, and maintain SQL queries, views, and stored procedures for efficient data transformations.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline performance and quality issues.
  • Build Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize insights and support business decisions.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Maintain data integrity, quality, and security across all platforms and workflows.
  • Lead and manage data initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and timely delivery.
  • Provide clear communication and regular updates to teams and stakeholders.
  • Automate and document repetitive data tasks, and provide backup support for departmental staff as needed.
