About The Position

Trepp’s Data Platform Team is responsible for the distributed systems and datalake architectures that power our entire product suite. As a member of the Data Platform Team, you will focus on building robust foundations and scalable frameworks that empower our developers and ensure platform stability. Beyond infrastructure, you will play a key role in building and maintaining reliable, high-quality data products that serve as the backbone for business-critical insights. Trepp owns the end-to-end data lifecycle—from ingestion frameworks to observability stacks—allowing Trepp to scale effectively in a data-driven market. The company is looking for a code-first Data Engineer to join its NYC office and help transform complex data requirements into elegant, automated solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in data or software engineering. Relevant internships, research assistantships, or significant academic projects are highly valued as part of this experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Python (preferred), Java, or Scala, with an emphasis on writing clean, testable code.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational database concepts and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows, SDLC, and basic CI/CD principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to explain the "why" behind your technical decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AWS services (S3, Lambda, EMR, or Glue).
  • Hands-on experience or academic exposure to Apache Spark.
  • Interest or experience with LLMs and AI-driven data workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to build, maintain, and scale our core data ingestion and pipeline frameworks.
  • Dive deep into our platform’s design to contribute meaningfully to technical discussions and high-impact project implementations.
  • Translate complex technical requirements into clean, testable, and scalable Python code and data workflows.
  • Participate in "Proof of Concept" (PoC) initiatives to test-drive new open-source tools and cutting-edge methodologies.
  • Champion engineering best practices—like robust unit testing and thorough documentation—to keep the platform rock-solid as we grow.
