Data Center Technician
About The Position
TEKsystems is seeking multiple Data Center Technicians to support an enterprise customer at one of their largest datacenter sites in the country. We are anticipating multiple openings within the next few weeks and are starting to interview candidates immediately. These are entry level positions but candidates with prior hardware experience, industry certifications, or education in IT will be preferred. Description: Prepares, stages, sets up, and performs startups and shutdowns (e.g., racks, hard drives, switches) according to specific instructions, checklists, guides, standard protocols, and emails. Performs post-execution quality checks and verifies that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly according to safety protocols, deployment standards, and planned Network Design Tasks (NDTs). Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifies the cause(s) of issues, and replaces faulty components Decommissions hardware for simple changes and refreshes (e.g., memory upgrades, OS rebuilds) following standard procedures with minimal guidance Follows procedures to communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
- 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
- Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays.
Nice To Haves
- Previous datacenter experience a plus
- Looking for driven individuals to come in on the ground floor and work their way up within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Server/Network/rPDU device rack, stack and cable incl. Cable Management
- Rack/MOR Cabling - General supervised Deployment support
- Decommission IT equipment (server and network under MSFT supervision), DBD removal only (does not perform any scanning)
- Physical audits of datacenter assets
- Basic Server (Discrete/Rack-based) repair following documented procedures
- Physically assist in moving and racking equipment
- Maintain data center facilities removing debris and empty boxes once no longer needed
- Hard drive shredding
- Moving Locked DBD Bins to shred area
- Audit and inventory management support & spine clean up
- Perform rack movement
