About The Position

Qualcomm is searching for engineering talent to set and drive future systems level vision and technical requirements for our Data Center Services Group (DCS). As a Data Center Architect, you will lead designs for Qualcomm's Global DCs and impact other DC projects around the world. As an expert, you will serve a key role in the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large scale implementation issues, and be responsible for architectural design requirements.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of IT-specific work experience with a Bachelor's degree.
  • OR
  • 9+ years of IT-specific work experience without a Bachelor's degree.
  • Must be able to work full time in San Diego (on-site)

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ years of experience in Data Center technology design and implementation
  • Experience in architecting or designing cooling solutions at server, rack, row, room, and building levels
  • Experience using design software such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio
  • Experience specifying rack elevation plans, data center floor layouts and rack power distribution
  • Experience in partnering with co-location vendors, IT VARs, and implementation specialists
  • Working knowledge of networking/server/storage architecture and hardware, cable connections and types
  • Working knowledge of next generation data center technologies, including liquid cooling of server infrastructure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear and accurate process documentation

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan data center physical deployments to meet business requirements for on-prem and co-located facilities
  • Work on greenfield deployments and expansion/optimization of existing DCs
  • Ensure designs and installations meet requirements while optimizing rack density/layout, power delivery, and cooling efficiency. Consider the impact of design decisions on future operations and maintenance.
  • Work as a team with project managers, server, storage, networking, and facilities groups, external vendors, and others to drive successful project completion and meet expected timelines
  • Globally assist with data center capacity planning, which is driven by QC's engineering and other business needs
  • Collaborate with QC facilities staff and external design consultants through the design, construction, and commissioning processes.
  • Develop and review design and RFP documents and processes
  • Translate highly technical concepts into actionable plans
  • Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of implementing data center infrastructure equipment and collaborating with Facilities (MEP)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to multi-task diverse issues in ambiguous conditions
  • Review and participate in IT compliance and risk management activities
  • Review and drive DC security processes, enforcement, and audits
  • Some travel may be necessary for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants
