About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Architect to join our team in a fully remote capacity. This role is responsible for designing, planning, and optimizing scalable, secure, and highly available data center and infrastructure environments that support mission-critical systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to define architecture standards, guide implementation, and ensure performance, resiliency, and cost efficiency across distributed environments. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Registered Architect (RA) license in at least one U.S. state (NCARB certificate preferred)
  • Ability to become licensed in project states as required
  • 5–10+ years of architectural design experience
  • Minimum 2–3 years of data center or mission-critical facility design
  • Demonstrated experience producing full architectural drawing sets and coordinating multidisciplinary design packages
  • Experience with construction administration for large technical or industrial buildings
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, BIM workflows, and architectural visualization tools
  • Strong understanding of: Data center floor planning and equipment layout Cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chilled water, DX, evaporative cooling) Electrical system impacts on architecture (UPS, switchgear, generators, busways) Fire-protection and life-safety systems Raised floor, hot/cold aisle containment, and cable management concepts
  • Ability to interpret and coordinate MEP and structural drawings
  • Familiarity with: Building codes (IBC, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE) Data center design standards (Uptime Institute Tier I–IV, TIA-942) Sustainability standards (LEED, ASHRAE 90.1)

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design for new data centers, expansions, retrofits, and mission-critical facilities
  • Develop concept designs, floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction documents (CDs)
  • Coordinate closely with MEP, structural, civil, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of critical systems
  • Ensure designs meet requirements for: Redundancy (N, N+1, 2N) Cooling system performance Power distribution and equipment clearances Security and compliance (SOC, ISO, FISMA, etc.)
  • Manage site planning, zoning, permitting, and code compliance for building and fire regulations
  • Review and approve submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs from contractors
  • Participate in client meetings, programming, and design reviews
  • Conduct field visits to verify construction progress and adherence to architectural intent
  • Provide guidance on material selection, sustainability, and energy-efficient designs
  • Support budgeting, project schedules, and coordination with project management teams
  • Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and adhere to data center operational requirements
