Data Architect

QB EnergyDenver, CO
$102,000 - $132,000Onsite

About The Position

This is a ground-floor opportunity to join a small, high-performing team building modern data infrastructure at an oil and gas company. You will work directly with the CTO on a digital transformation effort, building new systems from the ground up using tools like Python, Prefect, Power BI, Spotfire, React and AI-assisted development. The Data Engineer Architect will support data operations across QB Energy, handling both day-to-day data tasks and contributing to larger engineering projects. Responsibilities will include database queries, reporting, spreadsheet automation, vendor coordination, and full stack application development—including React-based data capture and reporting tools. This is a fast-paced, lean environment where you will be expected to learn quickly, take ownership with minimal oversight, and actively build solutions from day one.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in a data, analytics, or technical role—OR demonstrable personal/side projects
  • Solid SQL and ETL skills—you can write queries, joins, and aggregations without instruction
  • Proficiency with Excel including data connections, pivot tables, and formulas
  • Basic Python knowledge—enough to read, modify, and debug scripts
  • Ability to work independently and figure things out without constant direction
  • Work sample required: You must be able to show us something you built—an application, a data project, an automation, something that demonstrates you can take an idea and make it real
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field

  • Familiarity with web development (HTML, JavaScript, React)
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude, Copilot, Cursor) productively
  • Oil and gas industry experience (helpful but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain SQL and ETLs for reporting and data extraction mostly in Python, and also in C#, Go and Rust.
