About The Position

The New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is a public benefit corporation and the nation’s largest municipal Housing Finance Agency. HDC seeks to increase the supply of multi-family housing, stimulate economic growth, and revitalize neighborhoods by financing the creation and preservation of affordable housing for low-, moderate-, and middle-income New Yorkers. HDC’s programs support the construction and preservation of multi-family affordable housing in New York City. Team & Position Summary The Data Analytics Intern will build data tools that describe the state of multifamily housing in New York City. This internship will provide exposure to the use of data tools in encouraging investment in affordable multifamily housing. More specifically, the intern’s work will include extracting and transforming data from internal and external sources; building data analysis pipelines; summarizing, visualizing, and presenting results; and documenting and presenting their work. Their work may also include the development of statistical models and reporting dashboards. This internship will be housed in HDC’s Policy and Analytics (P&A) Division. As part of the President’s Office, P&A provides advisory and analysis services to help HDC’s senior leaders address critical issues and advance the Corporate mission. The division’s work is interdisciplinary, and our projects often consider intersecting issues of affordable housing, finance, economic and social policy, social equity, governance, management, and technology. Recent projects on which the team has worked on include: Monitoring rental arrears and financial trends in multifamily housing; analyzing citywide eviction patterns; contributing to the Corporation’s data governance program; identifying applicable local emission compliance requirements for HDC buildings; and integrating external data sources into the team’s database.
