Position Summary: Under the direction of the Data Department Manager, works in conjunction with designated staff to analyze data which may include sanitary, combined, and storm sewer flow data, sewer system evaluation survey data, collection system maps, WWTP records, defect rehabilitation methods, rain data, pump station data, real-time data and other similar information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Applied Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical Sciences or related degree from an accredited four-year college or university or 1 year of wastewater, stormwater, or recent industry related experience in place of the Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to convey information effectively; understand ideas and information presented in writing and verbally; including presentations
  • Familiarity and working knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Strong computer aptitude, internet and software programming capabilities

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with hardware and software tools from various flow meter manufacturers; utilize new software packages for analysis of data; use of internally developed data handling and processing tools
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills including basic hydraulics, especially as related to gravity flow hydraulics
  • General knowledge of engineering procedures and best practices
  • Familiarity with data management functions such as backup, archive, restoration, merging and editing
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems software

Responsibilities

  • Develop a general understanding of gravity flow hydraulics, flow data analysis process and flow monitoring equipment operation
  • Review, evaluate and process flow monitoring data associated with gravity and pressure piping systems, including analysis of the flow data to derive flow components from wet weather impacts
  • Analyze data for calibration, trending and anomalies using graphical and statistical analysis methods
  • Identify equipment failure and coordinate solutions with field service staff
  • Develop spreadsheets, maintain databases and assist in the preparation of deliverables, reports analysis results and recommendations
  • Follow standard processes for routine data processing and preparation of data for review
  • Assist in final report preparation, producing work of professional quality meeting accuracy and scheduling goals
  • Assist in outdoor field tasks related to studies of wastewater collection systems; short duration travel may be required
  • Other projects as assigned
