The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem solving environment. This position serves as a Data Analyst performing duties including creating, maintaining, and disseminating ad hoc, self-service, and interactive reports and visualizations, along with facilitating the production and sharing of analytical tools and dashboards. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience in applications services or a related Information Technology field.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience leveraging data analytics and business intelligence platforms such as Tableau, Power BI or comparable tools to design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards, self-service reports, and visualizations that support operational and strategic decision making.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience working with relational databases and enterprise data systems, ETL frameworks, and SQL Server for analytical and reporting purposes.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience interpreting data, applying statistical techniques, identifying trends, and communicating actionable insights and solution recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience providing technical support and troubleshooting for reporting portals, including resolving user issues, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining the operational integrity of Power BI Applications and Dashboards.
  • Requires the ability to verify identity.
  • Requires employment authorization to accept permanent full-time position with State of Illinois.
  • Requires the ability to pass a position specific, agency required background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties.

  • Requires the ability to lift and carry objects or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. This is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

  • Developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex data findings, document technical processes, and convey analytical results with clarity and precision.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, serves a Data Analyst for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Illinois State Police (ISP), performing difficult and specialized professional work in the creation, maintenance, and dissemination of ad hoc, self-service, and interactive reports and visualizations.
  • Designs and develops effective solutions to meet analytical needs.
  • Interprets data and analyzes results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
  • Serves as a resource for users seeking assistance with reporting portals and dashboards.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through online training platforms, meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
