Khan AcademyMountain View, HI
$107,712 - $163,746Remote

About The Position

Khan Academy is looking for a Data Analyst I (24 months fixed-term) to support high-visibility reporting and dashboarding across the organization. This role will be a key partner to senior leadership and the Philanthropy team, ensuring stakeholders and funders have timely, accurate, and well-explained metrics. We’re looking for someone who enjoys making data usable — clean definitions, consistent reporting, and clear visuals that help people make decisions.

Requirements

  • A passion for Khan Academy’s mission and a desire to improve educational outcomes through better decision-making.
  • At least 2 years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, or a related role (internships/academic projects welcome).
  • Solid SQL skills (comfortable querying, joining tables, and validating results).
  • Experience building dashboards and visualizations in a BI tool (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Interest in or experience with AI tools (e.g., LLMs) and a willingness to learn how to build and iterate on AI-driven solutions (such as internal agents) to scale analytics with a strong sense of “what makes a dashboard actually useful.”
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets and slide decks to present metrics clearly and consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a healthy skepticism: you like validating numbers before sharing them widely.
  • Clear communication skills, especially with non-technical stakeholders, and the ability to explain definitions and caveats without making everyone’s eyes glaze over.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines for recurring reporting cycles.
  • Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of other, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging throughout the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Python or R is a plus (helpful for light automation or deeper analysis, but not required).
  • Prior experience in education, nonprofits, or funder-facing reporting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Produce recurring reporting for senior leadership, including maintaining and updating Monthly Business Review (MBR) slides with company-level KPIs and narrative context (what changed, why it matters, and what to watch next).
  • Build, own, and continuously improve self-serve dashboards for organizations/teams (e.g., Philanthropy and cross-functional leaders), ensuring metrics are clearly defined, quality checked for data issues, well-documented, and trusted.
  • Respond to reporting requests from Philanthropy (including funder reporting), translating questions into clear requirements, pulling the right data, and delivering outputs on schedule.
  • Align on metric definitions, reconcile discrepancies, and partner with data/engineering where instrumentation or pipeline issues impact reporting.
  • Create lightweight analyses to add context to reporting (segmentation, comparisons over time, funnel summaries), and communicate findings in plain language.
  • Improve reporting workflows by templating, documenting processes, and automating repeatable tasks, while shifting toward building AI-powered, self-serve access via AI agents that can respond to stakeholder questions in real time.

Benefits

  • Competitive salaries
  • Ample paid time off as needed – Your well-being is a priority
  • 8 pre-scheduled Wellness Days in 2026 occurring on a Monday or a Friday for a 3-day weekend boost
  • Remote-first culture - that caters to your time zone, with open flexibility as needed, at times
  • Generous parental leave
  • An exceptional team that trusts you and gives you the freedom to do your best
  • The chance to put your talents towards a deeply meaningful mission and the opportunity to work on high-impact products that are already defining the future of education
  • Opportunities to connect through affinity, ally, and social groups
  • 401(k) + 4% matching & comprehensive insurance, including medical, dental, vision, and life
