About The Position

Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services. The Dangerous Goods – Warehouse Distribution Specialist plays a critical role in executing day‑to-day warehouse operations within a fast‑paced freight forwarding and logistics environment, with a specialized focus on the handling of regulated and dangerous goods (DG). This position is responsible for the accurate receiving, storing, segregation, picking, packing, and dispatching of cargo in compliance with applicable dangerous goods regulations, customer SOPs, and internal safety standards. The Specialist ensures strict adherence to IATA, IMDG, DOT, and ADR regulations (as applicable) while supporting overall supply chain flow, warehouse productivity, and regulatory compliance. In addition to physical cargo movement, this role supports documentation accuracy, labeling, inspections, and system updates required for DG visibility and audit readiness. This individual is a key contributor to maintaining safety, compliance integrity, and service reliability within the warehouse operation.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, freight handling, and cargo staging processes.
  • Working knowledge of dangerous goods regulations (IATA DGR, IMDG Code, DOT 49 CFR, ADR) strongly preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and warehouse equipment in accordance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • High attention to detail with a proven ability to follow SOPs, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including warehouse management systems (WMS), scanning devices, and Microsoft Office.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work overtime or alternate shifts as operational needs require.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and safety‑driven in a deadline‑driven, high‑volume logistics environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and audit‑ready work environment at all times.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years' of warehouse or distribution experience, preferably within freight forwarding, 3PL, or regulated logistics operations.
  • Must have 3+ years' experience handling dangerous goods, hazardous materials, or regulated commodities.
  • Forklift certification (counterbalance, reach truck, pallet jack) or ability to become certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Dangerous Goods certification (IATA/IMDG/DOT) preferred or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Experience working with import/export freight and WMS systems strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process inbound and outbound shipments, including dangerous goods, in compliance with customer SOPs, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Safely load, unload, sort, stage, and store cargo using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other MHE (material handling equipment), with heightened awareness for DG handling risks.
  • Verify shipment accuracy against documentation (BOLs, Shipper’s Declarations, packing lists, SDS, etc.); identify and immediately report discrepancies, damages, or non‑compliance.
  • Ensure correct classification, labeling, marking, placarding, and segregation of dangerous goods in accordance with regulations.
  • Perform routine inspections of DG shipments for packaging integrity, leakage, or damage and follow escalation procedures when issues are identified.
  • Apply scanning, inventory control, and documentation procedures to maintain traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and segregation areas in accordance with safety, 5S standards, and DG storage requirements.
  • Follow all warehouse security protocols to ensure freight integrity, restricted access to regulated materials, and compliance with safety programs.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of equipment and storage areas; support spill prevention, emergency response readiness, and incident reporting.
  • Assist with physical inventory and cycle counts, including DG‑specific inventory controls and audits.
  • Coordinate with customer service, transportation, and import/export teams to meet regulatory cutoffs, documentation timelines, and service commitments.
  • Participate in DG‑related training, audits, emergency drills, and cross-training initiatives as assigned.
