The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Dangerous Goods Transportation Analyst, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. The person hired for this role will support dangerous goods transportation regulatory compliance activities to facilitate and ensure 3M shipments are in compliance with national and international dangerous goods regulations. This position will support daily US and global operations in the dangerous goods transportation regulatory and compliance processes, including classification, etc. This position supports US and global SAP/ERP deployments and dangerous goods management solutions. This is a very exciting time for the DG Transportation Regulatory Compliance area as we are in the midst of business transformation, developing and implementing globally harmonized policies, procedures and systems. This position requires excellent collaboration skills and a willingness to learn and work in the regulatory space with data information systems and cross-functional global teams. Here, you will make an impact by: Support the global product stewardship strategy and dangerous goods team strategy to assure alignment across 3M organizations Provide subject matter expertise in dangerous goods regulations and transportation processes to support business operations and key strategic initiatives Perform analysis of dangerous goods regulations, leveraging rulings and internal/external advice across 3M’s complex diversity of products and supply chain Dangerous Goods Transportation & Compliance Ensure domestic and international shipment compliance with applicable DG/HAZMAT regulations (e.g., UN MR, 49 CFR, IATA/ICAO, IMDG, ADR/other modes), policies, and procedures. Partner with global transportation, operations, and business leads to identify DG compliance gaps and implement effective corrective actions. Support internal audits and risk assessments of DG transportation activities to ensure regulatory adherence and continuous compliance improvement. Assist with development, revision, and communication of DG policies, procedures, and compliance tools to internal stakeholders. Provide regulatory interpretation and support for DG transportation. Classification & Regulatory Analysis Evaluate products/materials against regulatory criteria to determine correct DG classification and transportation requirements, including review of technical data (e.g., test results, SDS, formulation). Maintain classification records, audit classifications for accuracy, and ensure documentation supports regulatory requirements. Monitor regulatory updates and advise internal teams on impacts to classification and compliance processes. Collaborate with product stewardship and technical SMEs to validate classification conclusions and resolve complex regulatory questions. Systems & Data Support Support global SAP/ERP DG master data and compliance systems, including data integrity and process improvements. Assist with development and implementation of DG or hazardous materials management systems and tools that support compliance. Training & Cross-Functional Support Assist with development and delivery of training on DG requirements for operational and support teams. Serve as a resource for regulatory questions from business partners across functions and regions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) OR High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution and a minimum of (8) years of experience in supply chain in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree education requirement AND
  • Two (2) years experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and writing/using data queries, extracts, and analysis in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
  • Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, manufacturing, environmental, health, safety, regulatory, chemistry, or, information technology from an accredited university
  • Minimum of (three) years of combined experience in environmental, health, safety and/or transportation regulatory and compliance, manufacturing, research and development, supply chain and/or information technology, logistics, or trade compliance
  • Experience with dangerous goods regulations, 49 CFR, UN Model Regulations, IATA, ICAO Technical Instructions, IMDG, ADR, Canada’s TDG regulations, or other transport or EHS&R regulations
  • Experience with systems such as CDMS, GGSM, SAP, FCS
  • Experience working with and leading cross functional teams including teams that are remotely located
  • Understanding of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulatory and Compliance impacts on business operations
  • Demonstrate skill at effectively influencing multiple levels of a large and complex organization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of the supply chain process from end to end in SAP for DG functions including DG master data, TM system, to BOL and EDI generation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to write and to effectively communicate, clear, concise, and well thought out regulatory, transport, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to create, lead, work in a team atmosphere, and influence change for success.
