About The Position

The University of Maryland, School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies is searching for a 9-month non-tenure eligible lecturer in dance education to begin August 2026. This is a 58%, benefits-eligible appointment with a teaching equivalent of 7 credits in fall semester and 6 credits in spring semester. Summer teaching is required and will be contracted separately. Travel to practicum sites within the State of Maryland is required and a travel stipend will be provided. The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of extension. Non-tenure track appointments are renumerated at a per 3-credit rate of $5,231.88 in the first year, with increases thereafter. The workload will be divided between courses and administrative work related to dance education. The lecturer will also provide support to the College Supervisor of the Master’s Degree in Dance Education with Certification within the College of Education. We seek candidates whose teaching and service have prepared them to contribute to the four pillars of the ARHU Strategic Plan: Transformative Thinking; Boundless Creativity; Expansive Empathy; and Meaningful Futures. Contributions toward those goals and values might include leadership in teaching, mentoring, or service towards building an equitable and inclusive scholarly environment and/or increasing access or participation of all individuals equitably and fairly. Lecturers who teach two or more courses per term are benefits-eligible. This search is contingent upon the availability of funds.

Requirements

  • MFA in dance or dance education
  • Experience mentoring dance educators in public education
  • Experience teaching developmental movement, arts integration, curriculum development, and assessment.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and contributing to a climate of inclusiveness
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively across units

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing administrative support for educational programming
  • State-level certification in education or certification in progress
  • Teaching experience at the university level
  • Experience teaching somatics, dance technology, and/or dance techniques
